FMATS Non-Motorized Transportation Plan
Fairbanks Metropolitan Area Transportation System (FMATS) with assistance from Kittelson & Associates, Inc., is working on a plan to improve non-motorized transportation for the FMATS area. This plan will identify deficiencies in the existing system and create short term to long term project plans for the Fairbanks area non-motorized transportation network. Ultimately this plan will lay out the framework of a cohesive network of non-motorized routes for area walkers and cyclists.
Public involvement is a key component of this plan. If you live, work or travel in the area, we ask that you please share your observations on the non-motorized transportation system. Your unique experiences are critical to the success of the project. The comments we receive will help us to (1) identify opportunities to better connect the existing system and (2) prioritize improvements to the system to ensure that funds are spent efficiently.
Please use the map at right to tell us about your experience with the existing walking and bicycling system. Feedback we are looking for includes, but is not limited to, items such as:
- What barriers prevent you from making trips by bicycling or walking or inconvenience you along your current walking and bicycling routes (e.g., gaps in the system, busy roads without shoulders or sidewalks, difficult road crossings, etc…)?
- Where would you like to walk or bicycle, but currently do not and why?
We would also love to hear anything else that you want to tell us on the map or in the comment form. Our current study area is within the FMATS boundary. Please limit your comments on the map to areas within the boundary line shown on the map and be as specific as possible, as this will help us to better understand your concerns.
