The on and off ramps off of 101 at Taft street and the on/off ramps to the south of the overcrossing of 101 on California are problematic with vehicles turn on to ramps and off the 101 ramps to north and south California. While there are bicycle lanes the vehicle drivers continue to cut in front of cyclist and pedestrains coming off and going on to the 101. I have had many close calls with vehicle drivers in a hurry. WE need a signal! at both intersections

  2. July 22 2013

The lower section of the south bound (shoulder ) of 101 at the base of the decent has a two inch lip of the right hand lane that moves into the shoulder area and causes cyclists ( a speed) to be forces to the far right of the shoulder to proceed safely. Any accumulation of debris in this area would cause cyclist to crash and/or try to move to the left of the shoulder ( where the lip is located and/or out into the traffic lane. This is an accident looking to happen. Just a side note scores of cyclist use this route weekly.

  3. July 22 2013

South bound cyclist and pedestrains have the option of using a unpaved trail to connect south bound HWY 101 with the northern end of Stage Coach Road. This connection is signed ,but is not a safe connection and should be paved under Chapter 1000 Streets and Highways Code criteria.

  4. July 22 2013

North bound cyclists and pedestrian have the option of using Old Stage Coach Road
(unpaved) to reach the top of Cuesta Grade. However, once getting to the top there is no safe way to cross six lanes of high speed traffic with poor sight distance to continue north bound.

streetlights along the freeway through town would be really nice

  6. July 10 2013

need to connect atascadero ave to el camino real. make an underpass for the road to connect to. it will help relieve traffic from the high school because it wil make another exit form that area instead of just ardilla and atascadero ave to the right

  7. July 10 2013

There is always bad traffic here due to the traffic entering from the CA 41.

  8. July 10 2013

I absolutely hate this part of the freeway! Every time I drive through it I feel like there is going to be an accident. There is heavy traffic through Atascadero and with this part winding alot and only 2 lanes both ways, it is not efficient for the traffic.

  9. July 10 2013

The freeway through downtown sometimes slows down to 5-10 mph. I dont know if these traffic issues are from accidents or just alot of cars but I do know that the freeway needs to have more lanes to accommodate this.

  10. July 10 2013

When exiting the freeway here to get to the high school, the offramp is always backed up and i was freaked out a couple times because i was stopped right where the offramp starts because it was so backed up. I though I was going to be hit by a car on the freeway! The offramp needs major work

  11. July 10 2013

As I start getting into the main part of Atascadero and downtown, I notice more and more congestion on the freeway and lots of cars entering and exiting. A wider freeway would make traffic smoother and I think it is necessary.

  12. July 10 2013

the freeway needs to be widened to 3 lanes through Atascadero. it is becoming more and more congested... especially with all the new housing projects in town (ex. Dove Creek)

  13. July 10 2013

this is such a scary intersection to turn on! there are so many cars on this part of El Camino and it is very difficult and dangerous to get into the Kmart parking lot or turn left. STOP LIGHTS ARE NEEDED!

  14. July 10 2013

I get on the freeway on the Del Rio South onramp to get to Atascadero High School every morning... i always hit traffic and was late to school a few times because of the traffic. it is time for 3 lanes through Atascadero to help traffic flow better

  15. July 06 2013

General comment on the 101 Corridor: The priority should be resurfacing, maintenance, safety improvements and better transit options, not building more lanes.

  16. July 06 2013

No more traffic lanes between Arroyo Grande and San Luis Obispo as an answer to traffic congestion. If you build more lanes, they will fill with more motorists. It's obvious that the current transit system is inadequate or more people would be using it. Spend the money on transit and improved bicycle facilities. Taxpayers should not subsidize developers by building more freeway lanes.

This segment of Hwy 101 is very often subject to traffic slowdowns and stoppages in the northbound direction. this is typically due to a combination of higher than normal traffic and high travel speeds as vehicles approach the base of the grade and begin maneuvering to avoid slow moving vehicles including trucks which often slow down significantly as well as slow moving automobiles being driven without carefully considering the change in elevation. While the problem is most significant in the northbound direction it is also serious in the southbound direction as vehicles maneuver to avoid slow moving trucks and other vehicles that are transitioning from a six-lane highway to a four-lane section. The best way to address these issues is to extend the six-lane configuration from the Monterey St. interchange on and off-ramps.

  18. July 02 2013

This area of Hwy 101 is becoming an increasingly dangerous area due to the high volume of traffic and the narrowness of the roadway and the regular presence of slow moving trucks which seriously reduces the ability of other vehicles to travel through without causing major traffic slowdowns and collisions. the most needed improvement is the addition of a third lane in both the northbound and southbound direction connecting with the existing 6-lanes on the grade itself.

  19. July 02 2013

This segment of Hwy 101 is very often the location of significant traffic slowdowns and stoppages in the northbound direction. These situations are most likely caused by a combination of high traffic and how the highway curves to the left and the right and then rises towards the Vineyard Drive interchange. The combination of these conditions causes drivers to slowdown which leads to the stoppages. The situation is exacerbated by the absence of a continuous frontage road system from the Del Rio interchange north and south to the North Main Street interchange.

  20. July 02 2013

Trying to use the northbound off-ramp to Spring Street is often a dangerous movement due to the high volume of traffic in the right lane from the Route 46 West junction to the Spring st. off-ramp. In addition, northbound traffic in the evening commute period has increased to the point that there is often a significant slowdown and even a stoppage. Even more, the combination of high traffic and poor weaving by drivers has led to numerous traffic collisions. The best way to address most of these problems is to construct a northbound auxiliary lane from the northbound on-ramp at the Route 46 West junction to the off-ramp at Spring street.

  21. June 29 2013

    101 and Broad Street
Broad street north and south has a major barrier to travel Freeway 101

  22. June 29 2013

Please complete the auxillary lane on 101 southbound to Spyglass Drive. The climbing lane is not adequate and serving the intended purpose.

  23. June 28 2013

LOVR overpass needs another southbound lane; traffic backs up almost to Froom Ranch during rush hour. Also, the Calle Joaquin & 101 SB onramp intersections with LOVR are confusing to visitors, who end up on the SB 101 inadvertently. The fact that a dirt road has been "blazed" by confused travelers illustrates this.

  24. June 26 2013

There are getting to be too many billboards along the highway, especially between SLO and Shell Beach - new billboards should be banned and existing ones removed, and they should not have lights on them.

  25. June 26 2013

Hard to see oncoming cars from Ardilla when turning from the off-ramp into town, especially during school hours. New bridge into town looks great.
