I think berm landforms somewhere here would be great. Also, given all of the other playgrounds in the area, there will have to be something novel or unique about this playground for parents' to take their children here.

Small children need play equipment to climb on and the "sculpture" though wonderful is over kill for little kids and not conducive to being played on. should be simple equipment and small area devoted to it. More trees, less convoluted play areas, simple simple and clear visible space for parents to watch the small ones

It's unclear to me what the flow would be like between this new entrance to and area in the library and the existing portion of the library. However, this may be a better use of space than simply another lawn as proposed in concept A. A lawn likely wouldn't be used that much, given that there are lawns all throughout this area.

If we're changing the median of Pennsylvania Avenue, why wouldn't we put bike lanes in the middle of the median? We could still put plants, etc. on either side, and then the middle could be bike lanes.

In addition to my earlier comment about moving all bus stops that are currently located here, another reason is to reduce the substantial loitering in this space in front of the nearby businesses (e.g., Starbucks, OXXO).

This intersection is very dangerous for pedestrians. A timed crosswalk from one side of 8th Street to the other is definitely needed (i.e., a timed signal that's used to connect the Starbucks side of 8th Street to the Dunkin' Donuts side); otherwise, it will continue to be a dangerous and difficult place to cross the street.

This comment applies to both Concept A and Concept B. The bus stop here should be moved for all buses (including the circulator). Preferably it should be tied into a bus stop on Pennsyvlania Avenue (e.g., nearer to the Metro Plaza).

In general, I would like to just celebrate simplicity and many trees, less hardscape.

Keep the play area simple -- a house (please, wooden, something natural), a few climbing items, interactive things. Natural colors. But mosty have items where kids can make up their own stories, play, and run around. Shade and benches for parents. And a fence!

Absolutely HATE the glass cube, so wrong for the neighborhood and visual clutter.

widen the pedestrian zone on either end of this island, and add lighting.

I love the idea to expand the library.

This interactive fountain seems a bit too close to the metro entrance. Perhaps set it back further from the commuting corridor, or use a bench as a barrier between fountain and commuters/escalator entrance.

The glass cube is absolutely awful.

I can see commuter REALLY happy about a water feature as they try to get into and out of a busy Metro stop. Too close to the natural pathway

This bus depot needs work, more trash cans to keep the food debris from blowing all thru the "park". That grassy area is referred to as "Chicken Bone" park due to all the trash under the trees

who will clean and maintain all of this?

I strongly agree with the comments about the addition of bright lights. It would make the commute home, especially in the winter, safer.

I am a HUGE FAN on concept B as opposed to A. The modern touches are nice, and it will make the space much nicer to walk through on the commute to and from work as well as more functional for nights and weekend.

Fencing in the kid playground would be safer.
It is easier to keep an eye on kids (and unleashed dogs walking) without raised land features.Liked 0 times
