Comments for “City of Oakland Pedestrian Master Plan Update”

The pedestrian access from 66th Ave to the Bay Trail is very poor and dangerous. There aren't carve outs for people in wheel chairs at the corners and the signals are too short and there is inadequate striping of the lanes.

This overpass is very dangerous for pedestrians. The sidewalk is narrow, there isn't a protector between pedestrians and cars and the railing on the edge of the overpass is low.

Need better lighting, landscaping and sidewalks. The intersections along San Leandro St from the BART station also need better painted striping and signalling to protect pedestrians.

High speeds on this segment of MacArthur. The road diet helped but speeds persist.

High speeds on 55th Ave.

Put in sidewalks from Fontaine to 98th Avnue

The sidewalk along Mountain by the Fontaine Overpass is broken in nhalf and at different levels. It is not handicap friendly. The cross walk from the overpass is in the wrong location as it does not connect to the sidewalk on the west side of Mountain Blvd and makes you walk in the weeds and overgrown shoulder.

Would love to see a diagonal crosswalk like they have in Chinatown to make crossing more efficient.

Confusing light sequence for pedestrians. Button doesn't change signal.

The Bike Boulevard along Russell St crosses this wide, fast road and the cars on Sacramento St clearly have no sense that they should watch for bikes. There's no signage, no markings on pavement, etc. There could be something similar to the green painted bikelanes used in Oakland in places where the bikelanes and car lanes temporarily overlap. A sign with a flashing light is another possibility.

The freeway underpasses need to be at least cleaned up on a regular basis. In addition to basic cleaning, a beautification program could help make these areas pedestrian-friendly. But just some regular litter-removal and power-washing would go a long way.

Add a 15th St Pathway between Harrison St and Alice St.

Please install a stop sign here. Vehicles come down 17th St at a high rate and speed and almost never stop for pedestrians trying to cross. The curve in the road makes it really unsafe.

Convert half of North Gate Ave into a park or sell the land for housing. This road way was created to be part of a downtown expressway that never happened and will never be needed. Give the land back to the community!

MLK should be one of the nicest, most inclusively designed streets in Oakland. It should have gorgeous trees, bike lanes, lighting and community art. It should not be a 4 lane speedway with narrow sidewalks, power lines and mostly dead or missing street trees.

Move the 20th Street transit mall to the former San Pablo Ave right of way at FHOG Plaza and make 12th Street BART the transfer station again. Return downtown to being the crossroads of the East Bay as it was for over a century.

City wide immediately stop repaving projects until a road diet study can be performed prior to repaving.

Reduce Castro St from 3 and 4 lanes to 2 lanes or convert to two-way with 1 lane going south and 1 or 2 lanes going north. Engineer I-980 ramps to prevent drivers from speeding down Castro St onto ramps. Remove all pedestrian crossing prohibitions.

Convert I-980 to a boulevard and reconnect all Downtown streets to West Oakland. I-980 has less traffic than Van Ness Ave -we don't need it.

Add painted crosswalks and signage. Ignorant drivers think that because there are no painted crosswalks here that you have no right to cross this intersection. A four lane road should always have painted crosswalks. Thank you!

Curbs here don't have cutouts - not ADA compliant and really hard to maneuver.

No trees - so many children walk along Harrison every day to go to Westlake Middle School and all they see is concrete.
