Comments for “SE 17th Street Mobility Plan”

north bound Cordova rd needs 2 left turn lanes heading west on 17th st . Should have been that way when the publix shopping center was built .
-
A building moratorium should be put in place for SE Ft. Lauderdale and beach until all traffic issues are resolved.
-
Andrews ave is underutilized - find ways to shift traffic from US 1 to Andrews. It's an entirely commercial st that would BENEFIT from increased traffic
-
Build parking at I-95 and use transit system to access the beach. Increase cost of parking to encourage transit use. It works for the air show
-
Create more open space at the beach instead of building more hotels, shops, venues, etc and reduce some congestion.
-
City needs transit system connecting Tri-rail, I-95 @ Griffin Rd (create parking lots) to airport, seaport, convention ctr, beach, downtown and I-95 (parking lots) & Tri-rail - NO other city has the advantage that Fort Lauderdale has given the proximity of all popular venues.

Do NOT want to see electric wires down 17th street for Wave Street car when electric bus is more economical and practical.
-
Issue to be aware between 4-7pm. People coming from the beach heading westbound that need to go north. Many of these cars take a right at Eisenhower then left on 16th Street to Cordova. They then either cross Cordova at 16th weaving thru the neighborhood or they take a right at Cordova, then a left at the stop sign at 15th and on out to US 1. There could be as many as 9-10 cars waiting northbound at the stop sign.
-
Crosswalks at all corners at 15th street and Cordova.
-
Want to see pedestrian walkovers for 17th street at Eisenhower and Cordova.
-
There should be continuous electric buses shuttling people from airport and cruise port to hotels on 17th and beach to ease traffic
-
Want to see less ingress/egress on Cordova road. To many cars turning from every which way.
-
Reducing A1A lanes north of Sunrise has put more pressure on 17th Street. A1A use to be the best route when going north of Oakland Park on Federal. Now the fastest route for those in the Harbor Beach and other areas is to go 17th to Federal.
-
The lighting at the Intersection of 17th St and Eisenhauer Blvd. is non existent. It is very difficult to see pedestrians crossing the street, also the walking signals are way to short.
-
When I-595 was originally built we were told that fuel truck and other truck traffic would enter and leave the Port via Eller Dr and I-595. The Port truck traffic should be required to do this and not use Spangler and State Road 84. They create tremendous unneeded congestion and danger.
-
16th st should be improved to provide another route parallel to 17th and connected to 15th st. Possibly add traffic signal at SE 15th and US 1. Many Southbound US 1 drivers turn east on 15th to avoid 17th st.
-
Traffic going south on US 1 backs up to Eisenhower at rush hour on week days. It is impossible to get anywhere. It takes at least 30 minutes to get from Mayan Drive to US 1 at this hour. There needs to be fewer cars, but I have no idea how you can do that since the cars from Mayan MUST go west to get necessary services.
-
On days when cruises are leaving port taxis make left turns against the light and block the box creating grid lock all the way to US 1 and A1A. I've called the police but no one comes. It would be nice if the police would just enforce some of the laws we have.
-
The Harbor Beach neighborhood should be included in your 17th St Study Boundary. This area should stretch north and south to include all of the barrier island south of Las Olas. The residents of this area all MUST drive on 17th St and over the 17th ST Bridge to get to a supermarket, post office, bank, laundries, etc. We don't have any choices. And the street is clogged with drivers trying to get through to US1/595/FLL. Meanwhile on certain days of the week taxis etc clog intersections trying to get to the port and create grid lock. It's some of the worst traffic in the country if not the city.
-
The whole of 17th Street is a mess. Residents east of the causeway MUST drive to Harbordale to go to the supermarket. They MUST cross the 17th St Bridge to go to the post office. We don't have any choices. Meanwhile, there isn't a throughway to Hwy 1, the airport, or 595. Adding housing without adding supermarkets and post offices east of the bridge is poor planning. Before 9/11 biking on 17th St was fine. It's the closing of a through route to US 1/595/FLL with the addition of more cars due to more development that is causing all the problems.
-
This intersection is very busy and the 4 way stop is dangerous. Many times I have seen road ragers here.
-
This area needs a pedestrian cross walk and proper lighting. Many people cross from plazas on opposite sides of Cordova north of 17th.
-
Reduce Federal Hwy traffic by connecting Andrews Ave to I-595
-
S Andrews should have direct access to I-595. It's an under utilized street and completely commercial. This would alleviate traffic on US 1 that backs up to 17th St.
-
After Port Everglades Security is moved south as planned then SE 20th Street should be opened from Eisenhower to US 1. This would provide parallel access to the Convention Ctr, Harbor Shops and 17th St Bridge. Result would equal Additional 33% increase in capacity on 17th St.
