Comments for “11th Street Bikeway”
-
High traffic area with school and the Y. Having a specific place on the road for bikes is important.
-
Many cars drive swiftly from Fort St onto 11th St and then onto Thatcher St to access the Boise Co-op. Please encourage people to use 8th St.
-
I’m concerned that there will be congestion with all the Y traffic and Boise High traffic.
-
Please do not waste money on a bikeway in an area that definitely doesn't need it. Please put my taxpayer dollars to use in areas that do need it and that will have a greatest positive effect on reducing vehicle traffic and increasing bicycle traffic.
-
Fort Street needs lighted and flashing cross walks for bikes and pedestrians to safely cross through traffic.
-
I was not aware that the Pioneer Pathway even existed. Better signage would be helpful.
-
Intersection needs to be lit up correctly from dusk to dawn. There is currently a dark area on the NorthWest corner of the intersection not lighting up cyclist adequately.
-
Intersection needs to be lit up correctly during school morning hours. Overhead lights can be on a timer (6:00 to 8:00am) to reduce light pollution for nearby residents.

I would like to find a great way around / through Boise High campus without dividing the campus or making it feel less secure or more divided by a busy bikelane betweek the buildings and track
-
Busy crossing, push to cross stoplight or flashing caution lights would be nice
-
This can be a dangerous block with people dropping kids off/picking kids up at Boise High, parking (both east and west) for the YMCA, and contending with traffic on State St. I would expect a dedicated bikeway to help make this block much safer.
-
Crossing river is tricky, and I would suggest putting in a crosswalk signal here (or something) and not just dead end the bikeway at River Street.

This intersection is a pain to cross on a bike, especially when you're heading north from Pioneer Pathway. You have to generally first cross 11th through the crosswalk, and then cross Myrtle once the light changes, in the bike lane, ensuring that southbound traffic turning east on Myrtle from 11th see you and yield to you.
-
If the bike path fails to be placed along 10th street through the north end, one way to achieve additional protection for bicycle commuters between the bike path and Longfellow would be to restrict north and south through auto traffic at Ada, on 10th street. This would help to restrict auto traffic along 10th behind the school, so that the kids would have a safe bike path from 11th street to Longfellow. There are many other good automobile routes north and south through the north end; benefiting the safety of grade school bicycle commuters by restricting autos from crossing Ada on 10th street is an obvious improvement to bicycle safety.
-
The bike path should utilize 10th street from the YMCA to Camelsback park. This way it provides a safe path to Longfellow. The safety of student bicycle commuters needs to be a higher priority than the parents who drive their kids to the school and want to drive 10th street to be able to do it. It would make no sense to prioritize the automobile traffic along 10th street, behind Longfellow above the safety of student bicycle traffic.

The current 11th street bike lane that crosses Hwy 20 and Myrtle feels entirely too exposed. With the amount of car traffic that exists on these two streets, this area is the most important to separate the bicycle path from the car path using a median. It would be good to do this for all of River to State streets, but it is imperative for this section.
-
Heron Street needs stop signs east to west from 13th through 9th. Cars use this as an autobahn, because of the lack of stop signs, which directly conflicts with the pedestrian use of the park.
-
There is no acceptable bicycle path along 11th from Washington to Franklin. The better route here is 10th street
-
Crossing Fort is difficult because of traffic and parked cars. A signaled crossing would be helpful.
-
Getting from the Pioneer Pathway on to 11th going back north is currently a pain. You come in at a bad angle to see traffic and the lights. Maybe there is a way to get on 11th before getting to Myrtle, so you are not crossing multiple lanes of traffic in both directions. Or a diagonal crosswalk.
-
Safe crossing, given the high traffic volume.

I live on Pueblo in between 10th and 11th and it is really common to have cars drive very fast East/West on Pueblo and not stop at the stop signs. I think the drivers are trying to get around traffic elsewhere by zipping around side streets. There is also an increase in traffic during the school year with Boise High School students coming, going, and parking. As new/young drivers, they tend to be a less aware of bikes and pedestrians and drive fast. Lots of folks do bike down 11th and 12th to commute in the mornings and after work so this project is a good idea and area for developing a bike pathway. Thanks for your work on this.

The wait times for pedestrians, cyclists and traffic on 11th to cross this street and Myrtle are extremely long, especially during the rush hour;
