This crossing is extremely dangerous and used by alot of people including children. A large majority of the low income population lives on the west side of Madras. They need to cross 4th street and 5th street to get to school, or grocery store or even medical services. From a public health and equity perspective this should be a priority, put in a raised painted crosswalk with a button to push for flashing lights so pedestrians can get across and access the services they need safely.

  2. September 02 2011

This is a dangerous place for kids to play, there is no local park so many of the kids use the streets. Divers are not always careful on these streets and four wheelers use the streets coming and going to the open areas to the south. Speed bumps may help in slowing drivers down.

  3. September 02 2011

J St on the east side is also used a lot by pedestrians, especially kids walking to school from Strawberry Heights and the Pines.

  4. September 02 2011

10th and Buff is an unsafe intersection for everyone.

  5. September 02 2011

D St leads to Madras Primary school yet the sidewalks do not have ramps and the neighborhood in general has areas with no sidewalks.

  6. September 02 2011

This is a high traffic area for kids using the library, yet there are no sidewalks in many areas.

  7. September 02 2011

The new improvements on B St are great.

  8. September 02 2011

Lots of people use Juniper Hill Park to walk, run and ride their bikes.

  9. September 02 2011

This is a nice area to walk the dog and use for running. It would be better if access to this road were improved.

  10. September 02 2011

I frequently use the bike lanes on J St and 2nd St when riding out to Round Butte and cross the Old Culver Hwy at J St.

  11. September 02 2011

This couplet is another difficult intersection for pedestrians and cyclists.

  12. September 02 2011

Many cyclists use this intersection, coming off Loucks and heading over to Meadowlark, when riding north to Gateway and back.

  13. September 02 2011

The area around Thrftway and Dairy Queen are frequently used by pedestrians and cyclists, but it not safe for either. Perhaps a flashing crosswalk sign would help them cross fourth and fifth streets.

  14. September 02 2011

Sidewalk and bike path do not meet. The stones and puncture vine are a hazard for bike riders.

  15. September 02 2011

H St has pot holes and rough pavement and are tough to naviagate on a bike.

  16. September 02 2011

I frequently use C St and Glass drive to ride my bike or to run/bike out to the Willow Creek Trail.

  17. September 02 2011

Grizzly Road, looping around to McTaggart and then back to town is a nice scenic ride, plus McTaggart serves a huge community. Bike lanes would be nice.

  18. September 01 2011

Very difficult to cross intersection at this location.

4th and I is impossible to cross. No one ever stops to allow pedestrians to cross the street. There is also no safe crossing for those waking west on J street from The Pines/SB Heights area and crossing over 5th and 4th street. My daughter wants to walk to my husbands work from the Middleschool and will have to cross 5th street to proceed to the Outpost. There is absolutely no safe place for her to cross after she reaches the Fire Station and needs to cross 5th. There needs to be a better crosswalk system at the South end of town. Since there is also a problem at 4th and I St., maybe there can be a light/crosswalk at I street that crosses both 4th and 5th There could be a trail to link walkers proceeding from the East on J, south on Adams, and down to I St, sort of around the Totem Pole area.

The intersections at 5th and C, where the boy was killed is very unsafe. There is a left turn lane there but no left turn lane signal...it needs to be fixed so no one else is hurt. Also the intersection on the north end of Taco Bell and facing west has a similar issue. There is a left turn lane but no left turn signal. The issue is that the lanes don't line up with the oncoming traffic. This is a risk to pedestrians as the drivers are trying to get through the turn quickly and may miss looking for pedistrians, which may be what cause the death of the little boy. Trajic.

A trail or bicycle connection from H Street (the skate park) and the fishing pond.

  24. August 30 2011

With the addition of the fishing pond, safe crossing from the subdivision on the west side of HWY 361 to the Fairgrounds should be top priority.
