I think a bridge over the RR tracks and river would be good here but over Swanfalls road would be good if nothing else,

  2. November 29 2011

I'm a little surprised to be hearing about this from ACHD and not anything from the city of Kuna. Wouldn't it have been a better idea to work with the city and the Chamber of Commerce and had some sort of presentation where everybody talked about what some of the options were, what we could reasonably expect and ask for, what the purpose of this was, etc.?

  3. November 29 2011

I agree with the comment that we need a traffic light at Avalon and Kay. It's very difficult to cross there even in a car, let alone on a bike or as a pedestrian.

  4. November 29 2011

We really, really need an overpass either here or at Bridge/Avalon. People have died because ambulances were stuck behind a train.

  5. November 29 2011

Has anybody ever thought of extending Avalon and crossing the creek and the tracks? I know we've talked about having a truck route that avoided downtown; how about making an Avalon Extension for trucks?

  6. November 29 2011

We really, really need an overpass either here or at Swan Falls. People have died because ambulances were stuck behind a train.

The whole stretch of Linder between Main Street and Swan Falls, you take your life in your hands, as a pedestrian, bicyclist, or even a driver, trying to figure out where people are going and where they're turning.

  8. November 29 2011

Both the 3rd/W 1st/Linder intersections are too dangerous for cars and bikes. S Linder and Swan Falls is also too dangerous for bikes. You must route the bike routes away from these two especially busy intersections. Something like 2nd st. to Orchard would keep bikes safer. Be there during rush hour and you'll see what I mean.

  9. November 29 2011

As others have noted, trying to bike on Avalon street from downtown to reach the market is difficult and dangerous for bicyclists. A bike lane or wider shoulder would help, but the Linder/3rd intersection should probably be top priority of the five listed.

  10. November 29 2011

I have a great idea. First, we need to make sure that vehicles and others can cross the railroad tracks in one or more places, whether a train is blocking or not. Next, let's not waste taxpayer money from the ACHD that is for roads, payed for by the driving public for bicycle and pedestrian uses. Use the money for roads. Once pedestrians are charged for walking and bicyclists for riding then use that money for sidewalks and bike paths. Until then NO ROAD MONEY FOR PEDESTRIANS AND BICYCLISTS!!!!

I use an electrict wheelchair for mobility around town. The hardest area to get around is from the intersection of S School St/W Avalon St to the bridge crossing Indian Creek at Bridge St. There is a paved shoulder from S School to Owyhee which is usually blocked by people parking on it. The other bad place is the intersection of Owyhee St. and Bridge St which collects water and is often an area that is unusable with the electrict wheel chair. The second place that is a problem is from the East end of the Greenbelt to Orchard St. There is not a sidewalk to E. Avalon, no safe place to cross the intersection at E Avalon/Swan Falls, and no sidewalk from W 3rd St/Linder Ave/E Avalon to Orchard St.

From South School St. to the intersection of Avenue D and Main St. there are not sidewalks. My wife is handicapped and uses an electric wheel chair for mobility and to travel around town. This area is a high traffic area with no safe crossing at Bridge St. and Owyhee St. without getting into the traffic lane (especially if it has been raining) It would be great if we had sidewalks that would allow her to travel to Pauls Market and out Linder to her Doctor/Dentist/Optometrist on Linder Ave. I think the most dangerous intersection in Kuna is the Linder Ave/W 3rd St/ triangle which should include the Swan Falls Road/E Avalon St intersection. West 4th St should also have a complete sidewalk from Kay St to Ten Mile. The main Kuna town needs many improvements to be a safe place for children and elderly.

The park and walkway are pleasant, for a park. The walkway is short, though, and doesn't have access at the SE end, for anyone to get to it, or go from it, by foot or bike. I live in the only quadrant that has fairly easy non-motorized access to the park--to the NW. Speaking as a motorist, a crosswalk at Avalon/Linder/Swan Falls would seem to create a bottleneck. An improved crossing at the creek across Swan Falls Rd. (extend the park's walkway) would seem safer and cheaper, but would have to be coupled with an improved shoulder right-of-way N. and then E. along the S. side of Avalon, or with an extended walkway along the creek. To improve access for residents in the NE quadrant, why not focus on an improved crossing at Linder and 4th?

  14. November 28 2011

Occasionally we will ride our bikes as a family to the park or through town to get lunch. The area from Pauls to Main st is a death trap.

  15. November 28 2011

We need a traffic light at Kay & Avalon to get to Walgreens from Paul's before there is an accident.

  16. November 28 2011

For Pedestrians and bicyclists, an Ideal paved pathway would be a smooth, wide, 2-way non-motorized thoroughfair
along Indian Creek (Either Side). That takes care of
WNW - ESE travel. It could go from Stroebel Rd. WNW to the "Big Tree" sub- division. For North-South Travel or NE-SW travel, Everyone must get past (across) the Union Pacific R.R. mainline. An Expensive Overpass cage near Bridge St. would be the best solution. A Tunnel is
ill-advised due to personal danger to all users from
a violent assault. With a large freight train passing at
60 MPH, No one would hear a gunshot -or- a scream.

On your mailer/ notice, the Linder Ave./ Main St./ 3rd St.
Intersection is likely the most hazardous.

I moved to Kuna this summer and ride my bike nearly everyday. Regarding the study area, I find the road shoulder is too narrow for bikes along E. Avalon, from near where the 25 mph speed limit begins (i.e., near Paul's), westward to Linder and to the park. Also, Linder's paved portion of the shoulder area is too narrow for bikes.

  18. November 27 2011

Although I would love to see more bike paths in the Kuna area and would use them if they were there. I think some of the first areas of improvement need to be to finish 10 mile across Indian Creek and complete an overpass over the railroad tracks. Of course with those improvements, adding bike lanes would be great.

  19. November 27 2011

I would love to be able to safely ride my bike to and from the park. I live in Sunbird Village and don't often bike or walk because it isn't safe.

  20. November 27 2011

One of the busier intersections in Kuna. It is hard enough just to drive across E Avalon. Walking across E Avalon to where there are 4 restaurants and the gym is treacherous.

  21. November 27 2011

I would like to see a decent shoulder all the way out to Swan Falls Dam. Swan Fall road is a very popular route for road cyclist. Having a a shoulder would make this ride much more safe and enjoyable.

  22. November 27 2011

I live in a subdivision on Ten Mile and Deer Flat. I often love to run from that intersection, down to the greenbelt. I have to turn around at the end of the green belt because it is to hard to cross the street at the intersection of Avalon/ Swan Falls/ Linder. I could have a longer route if this intersection was easier to navigate. Also, I would love if the green belt was extended more a long the river. That would be a great addition to our community.

one of the big problems in kuna is getting past the trains when there stopped on the tracks blocking swan falls road backing up traffic clear down to orachard and clear up to short line rd some times both rail crossings are blocked at swan falls and avalon its clearly a hazard having these trains sitting on the tracks blocking the road iv have sat there for up to a least an hour waiting for the train to move if some one every had a medical emergency or there house was on fire they couldnt get help in time please call me i will be more than happy to talk about this trouble area in kuna
