Comments for “LYNX Silver Line TOD Areas”

It seems optimistic to consider anything on the opposite side of independence as TOD. These areas won't be within thewalkshed or even bikeshed of the station without considerable expensive bridging. These properties are extremely car dependent and without a lot of infrastructure changes it's going to remain that way.

Since this will be a key transfer station, it would be neat to see some small vendors worked into the station or between the blue line and silver line platforms. I'm thinking stalls for a small coffee shop, sandwich shop, or street food type vendor. I think this should be a relatively easy sell to developers especially if Levineland/first ward ever gets developed to create more activity here.

I mean, can we mandate that roads developed/redeveloped within TOD (especially West Charlotte given the socio-economic status of our population) have a multi-use or safe path for bicyclists? Your essentially adding 4 feet of asphalt to the now updated 6 foot concrete sidewalk. Plus it's protected by a curb, so we don't feel obligated to construct additional pylons along painted routes. Oh and we don't have to paint (5+ times over 10 years) bike lanes anymore.

It would be great if bike/ped access to this station is considered especially with the planned road projects along old Monroe Rd and the McKee Rd extension. Make sure those surrounding improvement projects allow for safe bike/ped connections (so please no painted bike gutters if the road speeds are above 25 mph).

Tunnel under Trade. Most of the tunneling and stations could probably be done by cut and cover. Provide a Station near McDowell, at the CTC, and at gateway. If the Silverline is going to serve as an incubator for the growth of Charlotte, it needs to quickly connect already productive places that residences and employers use. The circumferential route comes at the cost of providing reliable and quick service to the CBD.

Obviously, this will greatly reduce the areas for TOD; eliminating the areas around 11th street. However, much of that area could still see a lot of TOD based on the current Blue Line alignment. Also, having a mass transit option into the heart of uptown will help stimulate even more growth especially in the Gateway station area and the new Brooklyn Village development.
