The double lines for bike lanes on 43rd and 23rd are great and really help keep motorists from encroaching. I only wish they were more widely used.
This area is an absolute nightmare on a bike. Disconnected and disjointed, motorists are already distracted and disoriented and absolutely not looking for cyclists. And to that the frustration of trying to navigate this labyrinthine testament to man's hubris and the sight of bike racks in the center of a parking lot is simply laughable.
The intersection of 235 & 235A is unsafe, several accidents leading to deaths here; also the location is not properly maintained and the immense potholes that form on a regular basis cause drivers to make unexpected movements making it even more unsafe. The short distance between the intersection to the rail crossing also contributes to the problem. Please make this location safer.
Needs a protected bike lane or widen the sidewalks to a multiuse path. The road is way too dangerous for cyclists and using the sidewalk means conflicts with the many pedestrians who use this area, most of whom are younger kids. This would also better connect the north side of GNV to the University, as there are not many options to get there by bike, and fewer still that are remotely safe.
Seconding the idea of a multiuse path from 39th to 53rd that allows cyclists and pedestrians to avoid the loud, exhaust-filled, and dangerous 43rd and 34th Streets.
Traffic calming would benefit this area greatly. Motorists use this street to cut through the congestion at rush hour, often going in excess of the posted 30mph.
This road is an excellent opportunity for a bike lane connecting 39th to 53rd. With lower speeds than nearby 34th, it offers a safer path for cyclists, especially younger students going to the elementary school.
The multiuse path needs to be cleaned up, widened, and extended the rest of the way down 53rd. This is a safer alternative to biking on 53rd, which currently is exceedingly dangerous with a narrow and disappearing bike lane and speeds in excess of 60mph.
Secured short and longterm bicycle parking would be welcomed at the airport.
There is a crosswalk here in a blindspot for motorists that is exceedingly dangerous for the pedestrians trying to cross. Going east, it's located at the bottom of a hill that motorists are speeding through at 40mph. Going west, its just around a curve that motorists are accelerating into from the stoplight. If a motorist sees a pedestrian and stops for them at this crosswalk, they risk being rear-ended by another motorist.
The crossing should either be moved to a more visible area or speed reduction measures put in place.
The bike lane abruptly disappears going south at this intersection. There is nowhere for bikes to go except onto the sidewalk, where they are often in conflict with the students going to the nearby high school, cars turning into the plaza, and more. This is a big gap in the cycle network from the NW side of town to midtown and there is currently no safe way for cyclists to access the safer bike street on 12th.
Glen Springs Rd needs either a protected bike lane or a widened multi-use path. This road is used by elementary kids going to Glen Springs, high schoolers going to Gainesville High, and middle schoolers going to Westwood, some walking but many on bikes, scooters, and other non-motorized devices.
Right now, cyclists either brave the road where there is no shoulder or bike lane and most motorists are going over 40mph or they use the sidewalk, where they are in conflict with pedestrians and younger kids. If this road had a viable bike path, not only would it be safer for everyone, it would encourage more students to bike to their schools instead of using a car and lower the congestion on the road during school hours.
By making this road safe for bikes, we would also safely connect the NW side town to mid-town, as the only other bike routes right now are in unprotected bike lanes on 4 lane roads with motorists driving in excess of 50mph.
Lots of pedestrians, bikes, scooters at this intersection, SW 13th street and 16th avenue. The SW corner by Stake n Shake is too small for all of the non car transportation and right turners don’t stop. The SE corner similar challenges.
I just started working downtown and don't understand why this area is closed off? It is awkward getting in and out of the area with a car.
I prefer to bike, but as a woman alone I don't feel safe in the evenings. There are people sleeping in the street and on the sidewalk here. There is a bunch of junk in the street too. It would be nice to drive in the area.
Thank You.
A crosswalk is needed at this bus stop.
Cars fly by pedestrians and don't slow down. In the past few weeks, I have seen two pedestrians almost get hit when trying to cross the street to the Property Appraiser's building. A gentleman in a wheel chair was pretty much run back onto the curb when he tried to cross to the other side of Main Street.
I had no idea that area had so many pedestrians until I started working downtown occasionally. This seems like an easy fix that can save lives.
This comment is for all of UF campus. E-bike and e-scooter riders regularly do not follow traffic rules, and make things dangerous/unsafe for pedestrians and cyclists frequently. Micromobility users will:
* Ride the wrong way in traffic/bike lanes.
* Jump from the roadway to the sidewalk, and vice versa at will to avoid pedestrians/traffic, often without looking.
* Ride aggressively around pedestrians because they do not care to slow down and pass safely.
* Completely ignore traffic signs and pedestrian infrastructure. Stopping for stop signs and marked crosswalks (with people in them!) do not apply to them.
To be fair, normal cyclists will occasionally do some of these things too, but at a much lower rate than electric device users.
UFPD/TAPS need to seriously step up enforcement (if there even is any) around traffic safety specifically for micromobility users. If RTS funding is cut as of 1/1/25 as is currently anticipated I expect the problem to get substantially worse, as regular bus riders will switch to e-bikes and e-scooters to get around.
Drivers *do* *not* *stop* *EVER* for pedestrians in marked crosswalks on NW 6th Street north of University, especially at NW 3rd Avenue. It's a death wish crossing this street.
This road needs to be widened.
All of CR 239 needs to be widened. Too many Comercial vehicles using this for it to be a minimal 2 lane.
All of 235 needs repair and repaving between Alachua and Newberry.
Needs repaving
I would walk to this shopping center and the Oaks Mall, but heavily congested with vehicular traffic - red light running, blocked intersections, speeding, tailgating.
241 and 78th Ave have a lot of vehicles traveling over the speed limit and driving aggressively. There is no ASO presence ever to dissuade this. 78th Ave has huge trucks going down it from the distribution centers tearing up the road. These trucks should have to go out to 441. There is no shoulder or bike lane for people and they walk or bike right in the street.
NW 6th St. between 8th Ave. and NW 39th Avenue need a road diet and marked pedestrian crossings. Urgent need for crossing at NW 21st Ave. for Access to Curia Coffee and Aux Market
Cars parked illegally limit visibility and cause vehicles to have to travel into oncoming traffic.
