I’m not certain if it’s 35th or 36th Way, but I’ve noticed a concerning situation where children wait for their school bus on the grass near a busy road. As a parent, it’s alarming to see cars speeding by while these kids, around 15 of them, sit so close to the traffic. The potential for a tragic accident is high, especially with the possibility of playful shoving among the children.

These kids urgently need a safe and covered area to wait for their bus, away from the dangers of the road. Additionally, the speed limit in this area should be reduced and strictly enforced, possibly with speed cameras, to ensure the safety of everyone.

Can we please adjoin these neighborhoods with a bike/walking trail, so we don't have to walk/bike on the sidewalk of the very busy/fast 16th Ave. or drive 2 minutes to see our friends, family and neighbors in nearby neighborhoods?

This crosswalk option is better than nothing, but overall very dangerous. Kids think that if they press the button they can just stop. But cars simply do not stop there. Kids that live in the Brywood neighborhood have been hit by cars here and severely injured because the cars speed over the hills (this cross walk is at the bottom of two hills). We need to get either Traffic light out of the Brywood neighborhood, or a yellow to red crossing- stop-light at this intersection ASAP. Also, and the speed limit on 16th needs to be lowered and/or properly monitored with repercussions for breaking the law. People speed on this area of 16th so frequently (flying over the hills) that it is not safe for children to walk to the nearby schools and parks. If there was a walking/biking trail away from the roads and much safer crossings, we will definitely see a huge uptick in 16th Ave neighborhood residents travelling to the parks and schools via walking and biking. Right now it is just too dangerous along 16th to really use it for walking and biking...especially for kids.

This is how I get from 8th Ave to campus where I work. With this route I take bike paths through loblolly woods to 8th Ave, cross at the crosswalk, then take a right before the hill on a quiet street (23rd) all the way to University. There is no crossing area here at University Ave so it is a bit nerve-wracking waiting for it to be clear of cars before crossing. Then the next crossing with no signal is at SW 2nd Ave. After crossing that road I am on Campus with many safe options for biking. I ride my e-bike (slowly) and so the hill on 23rd Ave is manageable for me.

To turn this route into a designated walking and bike path would be amazing for Gainesville. I have biked to work almost daily for 3 years now, and this is the best and safest way to campus from the neighborhoods of 16th Ave. If we can add crossings at University and SW2nd Ave, I will encourage my kids to take that route also (as they are both students and will soon be attending UF) Thank you!

You can't press the button on the North side of this crosswalk to cross over to the South side of 8th here without getting off your bike and walking over to the button, then walking back to the crosswalk. The signal needs to be easily accessible on both sides of the crosswalk, not just the North side of it.

there is a gulley instead of a sidewalk leading to the Ring Park parking lot on the South side of 23RD. This is dangerous to walk, a tripping hazard and pushes people to walk closer to the speeding traffic coming around the curve. Also, a cross walk and light might help to get across to Ring Park's North entrance from the other side of 23rd. Thank you...

the bike lane on 16th disappears between Main St and 13th St, discouraging riding

  8. November 12 2024

I use this crosswalk on daily basis and oftentimes cars do not yield to pedestrians or hit the brakes in the last second to avoid hitting a person walking.

  9. November 12 2024

No bicycle access from Sage Blvd. over 441 to San Felasco preserve. Sage Blvd is very dangerous to bikers.

  10. November 12 2024

It is very difficult to get out of this neighborhood to go east on Newberry during comuting times.Traffic is so backed up that you are left to wait in the median or turn right and use Parker/8th Street to go east.

I walk this stretch of road with my dog often. Cars go super fast on the stretch becauase there are only stoplights on 16th and 39th.

If another dog comes there is no where for me to go.The grass between the road and sidewalk isn't very wide. There aren't any crosswalks so I can't cross the street. The cars are moving too so fast and I have often waited 10 minutes if I needed to cross. It's not a safe stretch of road.

  12. November 12 2024

This is an everyday route to get downtown or to UF. I just got car doored here last week while on my bike. Very small space for a cyclist to be inbetween a parked car and a moving vehicle. And extension of the path on 6th up ahead would solve this

  13. November 12 2024

    The streets need repaving.

  14. November 12 2024

This part of the road can be very dangerous to cross. There is a small hill on either side, and if you're crossing there is hardly any time because it's hard to see the cars coming.

  15. November 12 2024

Poor lighting, no side walks and a lot of use of residential streets to cut off traffic, causing dangerous conditions for the residents to walk without sidewalks

  16. November 11 2024

Short sidewalk gap segment (approx 500') would connect existing sidewalks and create continuous pedestrian route between neighborhoods

  17. November 11 2024

Bad intersection, would be better as a roundabout.

  18. November 11 2024

We would like a crosswalk across tower rd for easier access to the new playground at veterans park.

  19. November 11 2024

    Sidewalk needed

  20. November 11 2024

Motorists run red lights and pass bikes and cars when unsafe to do so. Speeding drivers are a problem, too.

  21. November 11 2024

Dangerous intersection for both drivers and pedestrians. I would recommend implementing a Leading Pedestrian Interval and revisiting the yellow time settings and left turn signal timings/configurations. These recommendations are based on my experience when almost hitting a pedestrian and a couple bicyclists when making a northbound right as well as trying to make a westbound left turn into my neighborhood.

  22. November 11 2024

No sidewalks. Dog heavy neighborhood and you’ll have to walk/bike in the street and around the Stephen Foster neighborhood. Poorly lit in some areas at night

  23. November 11 2024

Very dangerous intersection. Please add a traffic light or at least flashing red and yellow lights like before. I witnessed many accidents.

  24. November 11 2024

Enormous potholes. People try and avoid them and nearly collide over the center or drive off the side of the road trying to avoid them. I have popped two tires driving over potholes on this road.

  25. November 11 2024

Pedestrians crossing on all entrance/exits of wawas
