The capacity of Hwy 68 far exceeds the traffic demands placed on it. It needs to be 2 lanes each way between Portola and Hwy 1.

Major backups from the Coral de Tierra light for Westbound traffic in the AM and Eastbound traffic in the PM. The San Benancio light also creates backups

Please put in the Bypass through Ft. Ord! Without it, the future looks like a 6 lane Freeway for Hwy 68.

How can you propose roundabouts on a highway that is regulated under VC 22349(b) as a 55 mile per hour zone? If you think traffic is slow and problematic wait til you put in roundabouts. They are cute inner city low volume traffic controls not intended for higher speeds and higher volumes. The point being missed is that 68 a scenic corridor was designed to service traffic levels of the 1940s-1960s, not the thousands commuting from places as far away as Los Banos and Gilroy. If planners could have foresight and not put bandaids on like roundabouts you would create a throughway through Fort Ord.

For vehicles traveling West on 68, add a right-hand turn lane for vehicles turning into the airport (Olmstead).

Please delete my last comment about opening up the protected turning lane earlier when turning left onto Monterra road. The comment was meant for Olmstead road.

Open up the protected turning lane earlier when turning left onto Olmstead road. As it is now, vehicles need to wait for traffic to clear before they can enter the protected turn lane to go up Olmstead road.

Start using this second entrance for Laguna Seca. It doesn't make sense to close off a large open driveway with easy access.

Add a climbing/merging lane here for vehicles turning right onto 68 from Stone Creek. Otherwise, vehicles from the stoplight come barreling down on you.

Add double lanes and merging lanes for both directions at the stoplight. This way slower traffic can have a chance to move to the right. Vehicles already use the turn lanes illegally to bypass traffic.

Start a double lane here for people traveling East - similar to Carmel Valley road at Carmel Middle School.

Going East on 68, add a double lane before the stoplight and a merging lane after the stoplight.

For cars going West, add more signage and flashing lights alerting traffic of the stoplight. Vehicles tend to get rear-ended here because people are traveling full speed towards Corral De Tierra Road and they don't notice the dead stop traffic.

At the bottom of Laureles grade, add a double lane turning right at the stoplight and a merging lane on Highway 68 for people turning East towards Salinas.

Add a merging lane/ slow traffic lane for people going up Laureles grade. Currently, having two lanes turning from 68 onto Laureles grade creates a bottleneck with vehicles having to merge into one climbing lane. Also, there should be a protected right turn lane into the park and ride. Otherwise, vehicles turning left into the park and ride blocks off Laureles grade.

Need Torero signal or roundabout to stop cut through traffic in Toro estates. Move intersection to the west to put it farther away from existing homes.

The whole section of Hwy 68 is question is already rated an 'F' grade for safety. How much more information do you need? The stop lights that are not visible around bends in the road are dangerous as you don't see stopped traffic in time to stop. That contributes to so many rear enders. Round-a-bouts are the last thing that is needed, they are horrible to maneuver. Please just widen the whole highway along with Reservation Rd., Blanco Rd., and Davis Road. At this time, all roads that lead to Monterey from Salinas are 2 lanes. Population growth dictates this.

Need to extend existing 4 lane segment as far west as possible towards san benancio road. Also, move Torero intersection west to existing unused ROW(intersection will be further away from homes) and make new road into Toro estates and establish a signal or round a bout at new intersection

when school is in session, there is a great increase in traffic. school has 300 interdistrict students whose parents must drive them in every morning and aftwernoon for pickup Need schools help to stagger start times and make bus fee mandatory so more kids will ride them.

All intersections in the study area should have broken white lines with green background across the intersection so that drivers know where cyclists will cross.

The bike lane should continue and it should be marked. Drivers need to know to expect bicyclists to their right. There need to be "bike lane" markings on the shoulders.

At end of day heading east bound, this is the worst bottleneck. Traffic can be slow from York, but after passing San B, it frees up immediately and get up to speed limit. Good spot for roundabout ? because left turn from 68 onto SB limits ability to adjust lights.

Shoulders too narrow. These are unacceptable bicycling conditions.
