Duke/Gregson Corridor Study

Duke and Gregson/Vickers streets are a one-way pair system that carry vehicular traffic from I-85 to NC 147 and University Drive. These streets were developed in the early 1900s to connect several neighborhoods, including Trinity Park and Old North Durham, to other parts of the city. Several speed studies conducted over the years have found the majority of drivers traveling at 7-9 mph over the speed limit (35 mph). Making changes to improve multimodal access for pedestrians, bicyclists and transit will slow traffic and provide greater connections for residents who do not depend on or own a vehicle. The study area is on the High Injury Network.
