Sandhills Safe & Connected - Interactive Comment Map

The Fayetteville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (FAMPO) oversees transportation planning for the Fayetteville Urban Area. FAMPO is preparing an update to their Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), titled Sandhills Safe & Connected, to address all transportation forms and elements through the year 2050 (streets and highways, public transit and transportation, freight, pedestrian and bicycle, safety, and security) and meet the local, state and federal requirements. The study area encompasses the Cities of Fayetteville and Raeford, the Towns of Spring Lake, Hope Mills, Eastover, and Parkton, and portions of Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, and Robeson Counties.

We would like your input on the list of high-scoring projects from the Sandhills Safe & Connected analysis. The comments left on this map will help the plan development team identify which projects to include in the final list of projects for the Sandhills Safe & Connected Plan. The final project list, once developed, will be added to this map for public comment. Project types include the following:

  • Bicycle: Includes bike lanes, neighborhood bikeways, shared lane markings, and other spot improvements (i.e., bicycle crossing improvements at intersections).
  • Pedestrian: Includes new sidewalks, crosswalks, intersection treatments, and other safety improvement projects.
  • Shared Use Path: Includes construction of new pedestrian and bicycle shared-use paths and trails, improvements to existing paths and trails, and other spot treatments to enhance safety at intersections.
  • Transit: Includes new bus service, more frequent buses along an existing route, or new shelters and amenities at bus stops.
  • Roadway: Includes roadway widening and reconstruction, new roadway construction, pavement preservation, signage, bridge rehabilitation, corridor plans and safety studies, and other roadway improvement projects.

Please use the map on the right to view projects and tell us whether or not you support the projects that have been included, or if you would like to see new projects included in the final project list. The project list is a key component of the MTP update and enables future implementation of transportation improvements in the MPO planning area.
