Comments for “Baltimore City Bicycle Pavement Issues”
-
Many large potholes and gaps between pavement/bridge junctions between E. Wells and w. Cromwell Street. It is really bad with missing pavement as you ride on S. Hanover by the I95 off ramp that dumps you out right after McComas Street.
-
There are several sections of sidewalk along edge of South Side of Patterson Park where concrete slabs are lifted several inches, creating tripping/falling hazard both for bikes and peds.
-
Large volume of kids - bikes and peds, crossing without looking at intersection of S. Linwood and E. Pratt St., Needs highly visible 3-way stop signs, more traffic calming, and improve intersection for pedestrian access. This section of S. Linwood is quite frequently blocked off for events in Patterson Park - a large swinging steel gate that can be locked, or removable/collapsable steel bollards would be extremely useful at this location.
-
Bike Lockers at Canton waterfront park, while useful, are not visible to visitors at present location - poor layout and insufficient signage or instruction. Needs to be better presented and tied in with the surrounding area.
-
Storm drain grates are parallel to traffic instead of perpendicular causing cyclist to move further into traffic to pass them There are 3-4 grates in this area that are improperly installed.

S. Lakewood Ave., behind Canton Safeway is very dangerous for bikes due to old rail tracks which can catch narrow tires and very poor patching jobs and small sections of cobble stones that create very uneven surface. The grocery store receives regular bicycle traffic carrying moderate grocery loads but street is dangerous when carrying loads. Vehicle traffic speeds can be excessive on this road as well since it is one-way headed towards Boston St. Recommend resurfacing S. Lakewood Ave. from Hudson St to O'Donnel St. and consider bike-friendly traffic-calming measures around Canton Safeway. Also Canton Safeway has No Bike Racks and regularly harasses me for parking my bike near the grocery store.

Light Rail tracks are much higher than road surface when crossing the tracks/N. Howard.

Large pothole in the middle of the intersection of Maryland and 22nd street
-
A buried pipe depression runs from the NW corner to the middle of the market
-
numerous construction projects, pavement cracking, and potholes make this section difficult to ride on. vehicles are swerving to miss potholes and steel plates making it more dangerous for bikers
-
Deep pothole travelling westbound right where a cyclist is riding next to traffic going straight
-
there are potholes and rutting along this section of Wolfe. It is extremely dangerous as you are picking up speed going downhill and it is hard to navigate along with speeding vehicles.
-
this section of Baltimore is full of potholes, left over cold-mix, and ruts. a construction project was performed through here and the pavement was poorly replaced.

The timing of this light is a pain. Some of the cars make it through from the greens uphill but bikes always get cut off after coming down the huge hill and you lose all your speed.
-
Poor signal timing. You come down the hill from the green up above and this one or the next always catch you and take all your momentum away. And most times not a single car is coming.
-
Killer pothole right where you ride, and at this point on Fort you're bombing downhill pretty fast.
-
Depressed asphalt makes for a tricky ride west through this intersection.
-
Brutally deep pavement grooves. Someone could fall in front of speeding traffic here.
-
I'm riding South in the bike lane. How do I get to Light St?
Ride in the crosswalk to the east side of Light, up onto the sidewalk, then what?
-
Often vehicles block the bike lanes in this delivery area. The concrete is rough, the cyclist is invisible to delivery trucks (there's a wall), and the curb means there's no escape.

There are 4 storms drains, two each way, over the Falls "River" bridge that pose a hazard to cyclist. The slots in the drains are parallel to the road, thus allowing a bicycle wheel to fall into one of the slots and throw the cyclist off the bike.
-
Got an idea to make some money for the city - how about putting speed traps on Falls Road! Cyclists are hounded on this road everyday (including myself) and blind corners increase the risk of non-cyclist friendly drivers causing avoidable incidents and confrontation.
-
How about repaving the entire section of Falls from E Lafayette Ave up to the Street Car Museums work shop. The RR tracks are a serious hazard and there are a few storm drains that need replaced.
