The nearby comment about protected bike lanes refers to Mission south of Industrial. I made a mistake and could not figure how to edit. Please install protected bike lanes all along Mission and connect to existing ones south of Industrial. We are greatful for those low stress bike lanes.

Didn't we just have 2 deaths of cyclists near this intersection of Mission/Orchard? Chris Pena was killed on April 7,2024 and Sai Ram Gollapolli on May 8, 2024. Two deaths in 1 year!!!! You have blood on your hands. Please add separated bike lanes on Mission to protect these cyclists.
-
The purple line along Whitman is kick in the gut of bikers but the blue lines are even more egregious. How do you think drivers would like these routes ilo Mission? Can you imagine closing Mission to cars? How will bikers access businesses along Mission?
-
We need protected bike lanes on Mission in order to access businesses here. The alternative routes do not allow access to the businesses, especially with BART in between.
-
Cyclists have to merge left, crossing 2 fast moving car lanes in order to go straight thru this intersection, crossing Jackson. The 2 fast lanes are gently curved on-ramps, creating extremely high speed cars. It is suicide to cross these lanes but you force cyclists to do that in order to travel south bound on Mission--shame on you.
-
Please separate bikes from cars all sections of Mission but especially here where 4 lanes of fast traffic create fear.
-
Riding south thru this intersection is extremely dangerous as the intersection is huge and cars are incredibly fast!!!!! Please help bikers get through this intersection. I ride down Mission, then right onto Sycamore, then over the non-compliant BART bridge to access Whitman, which in itself hostile.
-
Riding down A St in this area is extremely intimidating and stressful with all the heavy traffic and fast cars. It is especially stressful to get into the left turn lane to turn on Mission. This needs to be fixed for cyclists.
-
As an older e-bike rider, I prefer to run smaller errands with my e-bike. A safer route along Mission is needed to access and patronize the businesses located there. It currently terrifying to ride on Mission Blvd but necessary to get to the places I want to go.
-
This stretch of Mission has zero traffic slowing resulting in drivers flying down the road and often running the red light at Harder Road. Please consider narrowing the lanes or adding buffered bike lanes to slow traffic here.
-
This intersection at Harder and Mission desperately needs improvement to the pedestrian and bicycle access. Please consider slowing traffic down for he cyclists, walkers and students who make the trek up to the CSU campus every day. Having the businesses here is wonderful and we'd love our campus community to take advantage and patronize them with safe access.
-
This interrsection is extremely unsafe for cyclists. Revisit aligning the East Bay Greenway along Mission Blvd.
-
Better signage is needed to direct bicyclists to the Hayward BART station.
-
The Hayward Plunge is a recreational center which should be available for all ages. However, the type of road design for the road it's on cuts off access for many who would want to visit. Even the sidewalks surrounding this beautiful location are terrifying because of the high speed traffic and narrow sidewalks with many hazards for pedestrians. This is a lovely resource that should be able to be enjoyed by city residents, but it has been made inaccessible by the six-lane highway and blocked sidewalks that surround it.
-
Access for bikes and/or pedestrians from Whitman St to BART station.
-
A foot bridge here in Whitman St leading to the upcoming Hayward Center would be of great help for residents to have easy access the shopping center on foot.
-
commuting to Fremont it would be amazing to have a direct route down mission, not a weird one through side streets
-
this whole intersection is a nightmare and way too wide- if there could more pedestrian facilities and better crosswalks that'd be great
-
All of these side street routes are too out of the way - All the turns make them harder for bike riders to find and navigate, and each additional turn movement sets up more complexity, delay, and opportunities for conflict
Just keep it simple and return the alignment to Mission - The city and Caltrans needs to just learn to deal with the "downside" of reduced car travel lanes or parking spots - These needs should not be prioritized over vulnerable road user safety, and it's depressing that I even have to make this argument
-
A bike rider was hit and killed by a driver here at Mission and Orchard in 2023, and a scooter rider was killed just last month in 2024.
The proposed alternate route improvements will not help people who need to bike or scoot to destinations ON Mission Blvd. The East Bay Greenway alignment must be returned to Mission, with continuous physically protected bikeways and protected intersections. People's lives depend on this.
-
This is another area where we need more good access via walking/cycle paths to/from downtown Hayward and BART. If the bike path were continuous along Mission Blvd, you'd already have that.
-
We need walking and cycling paths to this area for the shops and also as a way to get up to CSUEB.
-
Choosing to divert from Mission Blvd for the bike route bypasses the schools further north, which misses a large number of possible users of these bike lanes.

Several parked cars block the bike lane. I complained years ago. Charmine Solla emailed me Aug 10, 2020, "Between you and me, I’ve been having the most difficult time trying to get our own crews to implement striping changes and I’m not really getting any support to hold the crews accountable for completing the work orders. So I have focused on implementing improvements through other sources that don’t require the maintenance crews’ approval. I might have to find another way of implementing the change on A St like including it as a Condition of Approval for a development close to that area or including it in another CIP project. Thank you for being patient. I just wanted you to know I’m trying my best to get past a ton of obstacles in the way of me implementing these improvements faster." This bike lane needs to be fixed immediately!!!

I love the bike/ped bridge here. This is a life saver for cyclists since it allows for low traffic roads while connecting Castro Valley to Hayward. We need more of these kinds of connections that do not allow cars.
