The proposed bike route bypasses too many destinations that I would like to bicycle to. Mission Blvd. is the most direct path and is the best option in a developed country like the United States. Please look at what Denmark has done and how well businesses are doing along the bikeways.

I love the parking protected bike lanes here. I was so pleasantly surprised. However, we need a curb between bike lane and parking to keep parking out of bike lane. Also need to clean some of the glass from the bike lane. I feel much better riding this stretch these days. Super sad you went backwards on Patrick.

This connection between Sycamore and Whitman is super weak for cyclists. I take it because I have no other option but have to get off my bike to walk the bridge over BART because of steps on both sides and super steep ramp angle. Please fix this to streamline bike traffic between Mission and Whitman. Even better, add protected bike lanes on Mission so we do not need Whitman!!!! This is logical since it would connect directly to existing protected lanes along Mission further south.

Buffered bike lanes are nice here--thanks. I think buffer should be between parked cars and bike lane rather than moving cars and bike lane. Still a little narrow and probably not enough to temp the more casual driver. We need protected bike lanes along this fast and heavy trafficed road.

No bike lanes makes this stretch of Whitman extremely stressful since traffic is fast and relatively heavy. We need protected bike lanes to make the "interested but concerned" comfortable enough to ride. And this links multiple schools along Whitman. Sharrows are worthless but even less effective with such sparse spacing.

  6. May 26 2024

Bike lanes here are too narrow and within door zone, making this stretch high stress for cycling, especially with high levels of traffic due to school. We can avoid school traffic by re-aligning protected bike lane along Mission.

Heading east bound by bike puts you directly in conflict with opposite 1-way traffic. B St is also wrong direction and C St is too far away, too much of a diversion for a cyclists and too much traffic. Hotel is a steep hill.

There is not a sidewalk for pedestrians to walk from the pedestrian pathway bridge from Sycamore Ave to Whitman Street. Leaving pedestrians to go on the street to oncoming traffic or go under the bridge in order to get onto Sycamore Ave/ Whitman Street.

A feasible walking path or sidewalk here up to Cal State East Bay is sorely needed. Many people walk in the bike lane, where I've seen a number of cars park. This is because there is no separation between the bike lane and road.

There should be a pedestrian crosswalk here. This crosswalk would connect the greenway for those with disabilities and bicyclists. It should be clear to drivers, signal protected and either raised (to provide disabled residents ease of access and to serve as a speed bump for cars) or connected via a ADA-compliant curb cut.

The Eden Greenway should be connected by a protected crosswalk here. There is a protected crosswalk a block down. That crosswalk would be sufficient if there was traffic calming on and approaching the crosswalk.

Please ADD STOP signs and crosswalk here at intersection of WHITMAN ST and CARSON DR as gets VERY BUSY with residents entering Whitman. Would increase SAFETY on Whitman, particularly given near schools. Thank you.

Do the sensors here detect bikes reliably?

  18. May 19 2024

Stores here are a destination that need access.

  19. May 19 2024

Bret Harte is a destination as is the Plunge and Hayward High.

  20. May 19 2024

Adding up the diversions from Mission to Alice, and from Thomas to Muir, and multiplying by 2 and subtracting a little for some 45 degree angles, this is a total diversion of around a mile over a 2 mile straight distance on Mission, or 50% increase in distance, with very poor access to any destinations on Mission itself between any connecting streets (given that the ped bridges have stairs). Once you've made it to Culp, the section between Culp and Harder will still be extremely uncomfortable also.

  21. May 19 2024

This is another Grand alternate that works but could be made a lot better with bike boxes, crosswalks, and not allowing cars through the donut factory driveway. But it doesn't resolve the core problem with routing to Whitman St in the first place.

  22. May 19 2024

The crosswalks to access the bus stops along Whitman are not marked and there are no bulb outs so cars park illegally right up against the crosswalk, creating visibility / safety concerns. I understand drainage is an issue but curb ramp installs should include bulb outs whenever possible.

  23. May 19 2024

The Eden Greenway should be connected. The major barrier is the railroad tracks, start working on a solution.

  24. May 19 2024

The bike lanes on Soto are silly because they end at every intersection.

  25. May 19 2024

The dog leg looks ridiculous. Consider 2x 9.5' travel lanes, or a bike lane in one direction and a very narrow travel lane in the other direction.
