I was really happy to see this in the plan! I love biking to Tanana Lakes and this will make it much safer.

  2. March 01 2021

I love the different projects here. Better access is needed on all of the routes around this interchange.

  3. March 01 2021

Yes! This connector is much needed.

  4. March 01 2021

As part of this project, I would like to see better signals for people crossing Geist from north to south along University. The vehicles in the right hand turn lane (facing east) do not start to slow down until they are already in the crosswalk, and the vehicles in the other lanes block the view of the crosswalk. I've had numerous close calls here, especially in winter when the crosswalk isn't visible.

  5. March 01 2021

I would like to see a traffic signal coming out of Costco. The driveway is exteremely dangerous for bikes and pedestrians.

  6. March 01 2021

    Old Steese Improvements

Access into the shopping center would improve safety in this area. I would also like to see a pedestrian crossing put in between the Walmart side of the shopping center and the Home Depot side.

  7. March 01 2021

Safe access for bicycles and pedestrians to the shopping center should be a high priority, as well as sidewalks along Merhar and access between the different parts of the shopping center.

  8. March 01 2021

I would like to see some secure bicycle storage added as part of a downtown project. This could be co-located with the transit center.

  9. March 01 2021

It would be great if some secure, long-term bicycle storage (indoor or outdoor) could be arranged as part of this project. Something like this https://www.mbta.com/bikes/bike-parking would be ideal, but any secured, enclosed area would be great.

  10. March 01 2021

The gap between the end of this project and the Dartmouth Road project is concerning. The sidewalk is very narrow here. I would also like to see better access to the Chena Pump Plaza.

  11. March 01 2021

I would like to see the Airport Road projects cover all of Airport Road, from the Steese to the airport. There isn't much on the plan east of Cowles. This will not address the lack of access to Lathrop High School or the narrow, fenced sidewalk sections that are too narrow for a bike and pedestrian to pass each other. For business access, I would like to see bicycle and pedestrian routes on both sides of Airport Road.

I love the path along first ave!

Sheep Creek Road and W Tanana Drive Enhanced Crossing

I'd love to see the FAST Plan include a high-priority plan to build a separated path between the Sheep Creek/Tanana Drive path over to the Parks Highway separated path. That (roughly) half a mile stretch between the Highway and Sheep Creek path is dangerous due to there being nothing more than a shoulder (which vanishes in the winter), but it is a critical connector for anyone commuting to UAF/Goldstream from Ester/Gold Hill/Chena Ridge and it sees a lot of traffic.

I personally use it regularly when biking with my dogs, running, or skiing, and it is always the scariest part of my ride and has at times been a deterrent to going by foot/bike/ski to access the trails over there (I live off the Parks Highway not too far away). I think if we want to encourage more non-car commuting options and make our trails safer for all users, then creating a separated path for that short little connector stretch is a no-brainer.

Ballaine Road Bicycle Corridor: Yankovich Road-Goldstream Road

It would be nice if the separated path could extend all the way from Yankovich Road to the Goldstream Valley. The "folkway" along the south portion of Ballaine is nice, but portions of it are not very usable for some cyclists because the surface is unstable, especially on the hill. The north side of Ballaine hill has no separated bike path, so that would be appreciated.

Mitchell Expressway Parallel Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities

Yes! This would be an excellent addition to our non-motorized infrastructure.

Chena River Walk Stage III—Segment 1

I hope this project will include an underpass so that people can access the bike/ped path on the west side of Peger Road without having to cross the road.

  17. February 22 2021

Peger Road: Chena River – Airport Way

Glad to see this on the plan. I bike this periodically and this section is kind of dicey because of the high auto traffic volume and relatively high speeds.

Ballaine Road Bicycle Corridor: Yankovich Road-Goldstream Road

This path definitely needs work. In the spring or at other wet times, parts of this path just north of Goldstream Creek are under water and unusable. If that is solved, it will really improve this. And while this is not a big worry, I do want to say that I hope this path will not be plowed in the winter. We have many winter trails in the Goldstream Valley. Trail users use this path to connect trails. Without a snow covering in winter, this path would not be usable for many types of users.
