Bike lanes are in the door zone. A friend ended up at the hospital after being doored due to bike lane in the door zone. There is no way to avoid the door zone with traffic since the travel lane is also very narrow. This is like being crunched between 2 different dangers.

I would appreciate having bike lanes on Mission. This is the most direct path and would make commuting more convenient. Biking is my main form of transportation, so having an efficient path is very important to me. This would also allow me to visit the many businesses on this road.

Diverting the Greenway off of mission will NOT solve the issue of unsafe conditions for anyone who HAS to access any one of the cross streets here. This is especially true for the CSUEB community who rely heavily on this particular corridor to get to and from campus. Please continue the separate bike lanes that so beautifully slow traffic in the fairway park stretch of Mission. We could have so much more of a walkable and accessible community if we didn't only prioritize cars.

Street is quite narrow and unlikely to fit a protected bike lane with all the bus and truck traffic

  5. May 31 2024

There's a post that blocks the sidewalk and makes it awkward to pass by

  6. May 31 2024

Bus stop lacks a bench and shading

  7. May 31 2024

The Hayward Plunge has a nice bike and pedestrian trail but it's not very accessible to pedestrians and cyclist due to the narrow sidewalks and the lack of a bike lane

  8. May 31 2024

This area has a no parking and a extremely wide right lane. A protected bike would be much better use of this space and it would provide a safe route to Moreau students

  9. May 31 2024

Pedestrian light takes a really long time to change

  10. May 30 2024

This bridge seems rickety to be used as a walking/biking bridge. It needs repairs.

I see a lot of people walking up Harder to Cal State East Bay, both to get to school, but also for exercise. It's actually one of the most walked on streets in Hayward. However, there is no sidewalk and It's a pretty unpleasant walk right now. Because people use it for exercise, it might actually be better to create a protected jogging lane, rather than a sidewalk. Just a thought.

The main city services in south hayward are weekes library and park, mias playground at tennyson park, and the eden youth and family center, which will soon be the stack center. There is no good way to walk or bike east/west from south hayward bart to these services. The only real option is Tennyson because there aren't other streets that go through. Tennyson has some bike improvements, which are a good start, but would be nicer as a protected lane (I still see most people biking on the sidewalk). However, walking on the sidewalk between Huntwood and Ruus is scary because there are so many really wide driveways to the businesses.

I live on upper B and try to bike to downtown BART. There is currently no viable option to bike east to west across downtown. A, B, and D are all very scary to bike on (I've tried). C is the only viable option, but it needs improvements to be bike friendly in both directions.

  14. May 30 2024

I would like to bike to Eco Thrift. My preferred route would be to go along Mission coming from Fremont, but it doesn't feel very safe to do so.

  15. May 30 2024

There are only crosswalks on 3 directions of this intersection, so if you are trying to cross 2nd on the north side of C, you have to wait through three lights.

There are only crosswalks on 3 directions of this intersection, so if you are trying to cross 2nd on the south side of B, you have to wait through three lights.

  17. May 30 2024

I see cyclists at this intersection daily trying to safely maneuver around cars to either get on mission or across mission up to cal state. Something needs to be done or reconfigured here so everyone can navigate this area safely, especially with all of the retail that is set to open here.

Purple alternative is insulting but even more convoluted blue is outrageously insulting.

I am thankful for protected bike lanes on Mission south of Industrial. I really had hope for a while but lost it when Hayward proposed no bike lanes along the rest of Mission--outrageous!

  20. May 30 2024

This nearby comment about buffered bike lanes was meant for Whitman. Could not figure out how to edit. I added same comment on Whitman so you can ignore this one since Mission has no buffered bike lanes but needs protected bike lanes to make cycling here safe.

  21. May 30 2024

The nearby comment about protected bike lanes refers to Mission south of Industrial. I made a mistake and could not figure how to edit. Please install protected bike lanes all along Mission and connect to existing ones south of Industrial. We are greatful for those low stress bike lanes.

  22. May 30 2024

Didn't we just have 2 deaths of cyclists near this intersection of Mission/Orchard? Chris Pena was killed on April 7,2024 and Sai Ram Gollapolli on May 8, 2024. Two deaths in 1 year!!!! You have blood on your hands. Please add separated bike lanes on Mission to protect these cyclists.

  23. May 29 2024

The purple line along Whitman is kick in the gut of bikers but the blue lines are even more egregious. How do you think drivers would like these routes ilo Mission? Can you imagine closing Mission to cars? How will bikers access businesses along Mission?

  24. May 29 2024

We need protected bike lanes on Mission in order to access businesses here. The alternative routes do not allow access to the businesses, especially with BART in between.

  25. May 29 2024

Cyclists have to merge left, crossing 2 fast moving car lanes in order to go straight thru this intersection, crossing Jackson. The 2 fast lanes are gently curved on-ramps, creating extremely high speed cars. It is suicide to cross these lanes but you force cyclists to do that in order to travel south bound on Mission--shame on you.
