Comments for “US 101 Mobility Master Plan - Traffic”

Where US 101 heads south from SLO to Shell Beach up the hill, once you get to the top there is traffic there due to too many cars on the road sometimes during rush hour. I've seen many minor accidents involving a rear ender. I think people stop and look at the ocean and the cars are going slower there and then the accident occurs. It seems it's mostly right before that first Shell Beach exit (Shell Beach Rd?) as you come up the hill south.

There are several very short on-ramps through downtown San Luis. These are old and dangerous. There is heavy truck traffic in the area making these on-ramps worse.
-
Stop sign at entrance to freeway on-ramp at Highland and James Way is not enforced. Daily the stop sign is being run at a high rate of speed even though there is also a crosswalk there. City refuses to use a camera there. Flashing lights on stop sign would be helpful.
-
Enforcement of traffic laws on Price Canyon would be extremely valuable. High speed, tailgating, unsafe passing, etc. are a constant in making this route dangerous. In addition, groups of motorcyclists use this route to race. One lone cyclist was observed doing around 90mph and passing.

There are an inordinate amount of accidents on and near the Price St. off-ramp, (North on 101) due to high rates of speed, tailgating and unsafe lane changes. Enforcement of traffic laws would be very valuable.

Broad Street at Los Ranchos: Southbound traffic backs up to the SLO airport starting at 4:30 pm and doesn't clear up until 5:45-6:00. At minimum a dedicated right turn lane or at least a wider shoulder needs to be added so that residents of the Crestmont area and Country club area can access their neighborhoods. A longer term solution would be to add another SB lane.
-
The third lane needs to extend to the Spyglass exit. As it is now, it just causes further traffic slowing with people trying to merge.
-
Weave lane in too short
-
Too many points of conflict
-
Lengthen SB onramp merge lane
-
Close the NB offramp and onramp
-
Close this onramp and direct users to 4th St. Then lengthen weave lane between 4th St NB onramp to Price St NB offramp

No mention of the Templeton Main Street & 101 Interchange. This intersection is a mess as it is used to get not only to the town of Templeton, but Ramada Dr. to get to the growing business area, and Theater Dr. to get to the Target Center. There are daily times where N bound traffic reaches the entrance to this turnoff. Not being controlled by stop signs or stop light both N & S on ramps get very backed up forcing impatient drivers to sprint out in front of oncoming Main Street traffic where accidents are commonplace. This interchange needs addressing and it is not on your map of priorities...and it should be.
-
This interchange is always clogged and confusing to new drivers...which are ever present with the out of town wine visitors (which I support). If even a small accident occurs in this interchange traffic would become tied up in all directions..Vine St., 46 E & W, on & off ramps etc. When a accident occurs on the 101 and people re-route on Main Street then Ramada or Theater the situation becomes dangerous with impatient drivers. This is a very high priority.
-
There are too many on/offramps in the downtown corridor. Consolidating Broad St. and Osos would increase safety without affecting traffic.
-
Cross traffic in this area is a risk for serious accidents.
-
Riding a bike southbound on 101 is good until the exit at Buena Vista. It is dangerous. Bikes should be allowed to exit onto the old highway that runs behind Cuesta park. Please acquire an easement or Right of way to allow this.
-
exit off-ramp and adjacent street are off-set. exit name is not consistent with street names
-
name of exit is not consistent with actual street name...
-
short transitions for on-ramp and off-ramps. name of exit is not consistent with the street
-
extend climbing lane through to Spyglass exit...
-
please sign southbound Splyglass exit to use Mattie Road during extreme congestion periods.
-
A wider ped crossing would be safer and help the connection between the two sides of Atascadero.
-
Close this opening or build a bridge. Unsafe drivers and movements.
-
Wider Shoulders / Bike lanes on Tank Farm would help with safety of cars and bikes.
