We absolutely need a traffic light at Dixie and Palm Street. I work on Palm Street
and the traffic is very heavy especially in the evening and dangerous
to turn north on Dixie.
A Pedestrian crosswalk would also be
beneficial as crossing the street is a hazard for people who need to cross the street or use the bus stop.Liked 14 times -

Please add a stop light at the intersection of Palm Street and Dixie Hwy. It is nearly impossible to turn North at Rush hours. There is also a bus stop on the east side of the street and VERY dangerous to cross Dixie because there isn't a cross walk either.

Okeechobee south to the Lake Worth border (Dixie). I do not want the lanes narrowed from 4 to 3 for safety (emergency service), storm evacuation and ease of driving down that corridor. I do support beautification, perhaps narrowing the 4 lanes to accommodate bike lanes. The traffic jam now entering downtown driving north on Dixie and Olive is not acceptable during rush hour.

This corner is very dangerous and multiple accidents have occurred here. When driving SOuth Bound on US 1 and trying to make a left onto Pembroke Place you cannot see the Northbound traffic on US 1 if the middle lane is blocking the intersection (which is almost always is). Many new drivers (freshman students) unfamiliar with the area become victims of this intersection annually.

Lots of pedestrians at this intersection, but E-W traffic turning N-S very often ignores the peds. Can we have lead-pedestrian intervals, please, and education to make sure peds use the striped crosswalks? Thanks!

Where is the under the bridge walkway as was built under the middle bridge!

Sidewalks to narrow to walk here.

If there is room, put physically protected bike lanes. If there is not room for PHYSICALLY PROTECTED bike lanes, do not even bother. Best design practice says a road with this volume must have physically protected bike lanes.
There are parallel routes that we can and should focus on making great bike boulevards.

Unprotected Bike lanes don't belong on streets where the volume of cars are high, as is the case on South Dixie. NO bike lanes, unless they are physically protected. Otherwise, no one is going to ride in them.

Door zone bike lanes are dumb. They won't be used by ANYONE except the most confident of road cyclists. That is a waste of money, waste of street space, and it undermines the safety of the project by inducing cars to drive faster than than could otherwise.
NO bike lanes unless they are physically protected bike lanes, please.

The context needs to be taken into account. The South Dixie road diet plan is a very good plan with plenty of community input. Follow it. FDOT and MPO should not impose top down solutions, such as insisting that the entire US 1 corridor contain bike lanes.

Got hit on a Saturday afternoon by a drunk driver, hit and run, turning on to my street, Greyson heading south on Dixie. Car was totaled and I was hospitalized for a concussion.

How about the first stage of light rail system in WPB connecting Good Samaritan, Northwood Village, Clematis Street, Brightline Sta., City Place, Conv. Center, Norton Museum, as far south as Forest Hill.

Left lane suddenly merges into right causing long traffic back-ups during rush hour. Suggest realigning roadway to allow left lane to remain.

Bike lanes shared with traffic and a bike line in the door zone next to parked cars are dangerous. Create protected bike lanes wherever possible along US 1.

Need pedestrian crossing and/or traffic light. There is a popular restaurant on this corner of Dixie & Kanuaga and many patrons park on the east side of Dixie and walk to the west side. The traffic signal on Flamingo is not routinely used by pedestrians

Invite the use of public transit by removing conflict between buses and vulnerable road users.
The following link offers a good discussion:

A dangerous intersection for vulnerable road users.
Ideally a protected intersection would be put in place (see slide 101 here http://www.fdot.gov/roadway/CSI//W3/D1-ITS-and-Complete-Streets.pdf)
A bike signal could be considered as well: https://mutcd.fhwa.dot.gov/resources/interim_approval/ia16/

Install a Bicycle Footrest. Maybe even with an encouraging statement such as "Thank you for riding!" printed on it.

Give bikes a green light! A separate bicycle signal would give bikes a head start traveling across Palmetto Park Rd, increasing their safety.
Such a treatment has been approved by the Federal Highway Administration and this intersection is a perfect use case.

Make a showcase of this intersection to invite walking and bicycle riding!
With City Hall and the library to the west of this intersection and Mizner Park and the beach to the east, this is a critical intersection for vulnerable road users.
Ideally a protected intersection would be put in place (see slide 101 here http://www.fdot.gov/roadway/CSI//W3/D1-ITS-and-Complete-Streets.pdf)
If a roundabout or other intersection were considered, "bicycle lanes should be terminated at bypass ramps to access the
sidewalk prior to entering the circulatory roadway. Bicycle riders have the option to
“command the lane” and travel through the roundabout in the circulatory roadway, or to
divert onto the sidewalk and cross the intersection along pedestrian paths..." as seen in section 3.6 in the Florida Intersection
Design Guide

Street beautification and trees for pedestrians need to be added here. Safer bike lanes and traffic calming strategies also need to be put into place.

There are too many accidents and too many cars driving in excessive speeds. Please add traffic calming strategies here in addition to safe bike lanes and trees to keep pedestrians cool.
