Comments for “2023 Billings Urban Area Long Range Transportation Plan - Draft Projects”

This a terrible area. We really needed the underpass to be built here to connect S Billings Boulevard and 8th. I'd like to see this connect to the new rec center with an underpass. I would get rid of the overpass because everyone speeds on it and it's icy in winter. I'd extend Montana to 8th and feed those cars under the RR to 8th/S Billings Blvd. Buy some property to make the underpass happen.

This is where the aquatic and rec center is supposed to go someday. Visionary plan is on the parks dept website. I would like to see better trail and bike lane access to this site. Potentially a bike lane on S Billings Blvd

True. I wish the plan worked with (rather than against) the existing irrigation ditch. Such ditches could be acknowledged and partnered with all across town as a nod to Billings' history and a win-win to create a green bike/ped corridor and maintenance trail for ditch owners. This ditch can be traced down to the Audubon Center. When lined with spring blooming fruit trees it could be a seasonal attraction and an additional produce source for the city's gleaning project. www.billingsparks.org/support/outreach/parkland-gleaning-project/

This park is critical to the neighborhood population. It could be improved by adding bulb outs and painted crosswalks. Improving the intersections can help make it more welcoming/inviting. Need mid-block crossings with painted lines.

Great idea! The Aquatic portion of the Rec Center project would also make so much sense here with the Senior home across the road and schools and downtown accessible by bus. You could add below grade parking belowing the baseball diamond.

Hope I haven't maxed out the number of comments I can add :) Would like to see this become a 2-way street. Reasons are that it's difficult when crossing, and 3 lanes of traffic invites speeding. I'd suggest 2 way street with a center turn lane and medians placed periodically. Also need street trees and bulb outs.

Turning into a 2-way would also be helpful when adding bike lanes. I can't picture this road with bike lanes on either side with 1-way traffic. Bike lanes need to have a striped buffer per NACTO design guidelines.

Jim Dutcher Trail
A trail to connect the Kiwanis Trail to Dover Park, with a connection to Wicks, would be an amazing connection. With a connection to the bike path that will be on trailhead road this will create amazing opportunities for biking loops in conjunction with the Kiwanis Trail and others. Imagine the possibilities.

This intersection is very difficult to cross when travelling east or west on 11th Ave. Cars line the streets and those cars block your view as you cross. Suggest making it a 4 way stop.

I like seeing bike lanes tie into Montana Ave! In this segment of Montana Ave, drivers tend to speed because it's a long stretch without any traffic controls. Which side of the street will the trail be on Montana Ave? Will they have to cross Montana to hop on the trail? If so, I suggest a traffic light.
