Add Sharrows to Whitney Rd, and Post Rd

Agree with the nearby comment. Spenard is an ideal bike route due to nearby Minnesota taking the high-volume, high-speed traffic. It desperately needs work on the curbs, potholes and could use a protected bikeway on each side. Put that road on a diet!

  3. April 30 2015

Traffic levels on this road do not warrant 4 lanes. A better use for this space is a bike lane on each side of the road. This is a heavily traveled route connecting downtown and Chester Creek to the numerous bicycle-friendly businesses in Spenard. It is the safest and most direct route due to Minnesota taking most of the traffic through this corridor.

The hard curbs on this corner need to be replaced with ramps designed for bikes and wheelchairs.

  5. April 30 2015

The extra-wide sidewalk on 9th between Gambell and L Street is actually contrary to what the bike plan recommends. It is better than riding on the road, but technically the Central Business District begins at 9th so riding on this sidewalk is illegal. A bike lane or bikeway would have been better. It is relatively new construction too, so it's not likely to change soon.

Latouche could make for a decent N/S route, but the intersections near the BP building are confusing and dangerous.

  7. April 29 2015

This section of bike trail is almost unrideable due to roots from the nearby trees. Move the trail to the other side of the trees on the edge of the parking lot.

  8. April 29 2015

There needs to be a fence or some other traffic control device to keep pedestrians from crossing traffic right at the exit of the tunnel.

  9. April 29 2015

Virginia Ct. should have a stop sign. This would eliminate ambiguity in the traffic pattern.

  10. April 29 2015

Downhill bike traffic should not have to stop here.

Salmon-bearing Chester Creek is heavily channelized in this location. With parkland on both sides, consideration should be given to infiltration ponds, synthetic meanders and other water features which would improve salmon habitat, improve water quality, enhance the park and increase both safety and efficiency of the trail. The trail could be straightened, the bridge relocated and realigned. Combined with a rework of Gambell, the archaic culvert could be replaced with a bridge similar to Cambell Creek, allowing for a natural habitat for fish and a much safer trail.

  12. April 29 2015

There is a heavily worn dirt trail alongside the new drainage ditch. This is a much more direct route to where people come from and want to go. Latouche is a major, safe corridor and a beeline link to the Chester Creek Trail, the bridge and Karluk would make for an excellent route, much more so than the one linking Juneau, which adds a number of turns and a significant distance to commutes in any direction.

  13. April 29 2015

A split guard rail is not appropriate for this bike trail spur termination. Balusters would be more appropriate. Make it clear that it is a bike trail ending, with signage indicating destinations, distances etc. The transition on both sides needs to be part of the trail maintenance plan as there is frequently gravel on one side and broken glass on the other.

  14. April 29 2015

Of all the places in town, this is #1 on the list for a bike box. Make a smooth transition to the opposite sidewalk so bikers can do a jog over to Fairbanks, linking up with the Chester Creek Trail.

  15. April 29 2015

A bike box here would allow cars to turn, preventing right hook situation.

  16. April 28 2015

Vehicular traffic should yield to the trail, relocated stop signs to the driveway.

  17. April 28 2015

Vehicular traffic should yield to the trail. Stop signs should be relocated to the parking lot and driveway entrance.

  18. April 28 2015

Vehicular traffic should yield to the trail, the stop signs should be relocated to the road.

  19. April 27 2015

Shoulder stripping alone is pretty much useless as drivers consider it a shoulder and OK to drive and pass across a solid white line.

  20. April 27 2015

Designated bike lanes on Boundary would keep bikes out of the 'door-zone' on the north side of the road where all the apartment dwellers park. It is better on the south side as parking isn't allowed any longer until you get further up the hill. Additionally, I believe there are two different speeds posted in this area. A higher speed limit heading west, slower limit heading east.

  21. April 27 2015

Very dangerous intersection at Boundary and Muldoon. The northern crosswalk on north bound Muldoon ends on the west side in the bushes. Additionally, drivers are using the south bound shoulder as a turn lane.

A sign at the Dowling round-about and Homer Drive states is it a bike route yet when you take the on-ramp/Homer Road a sign says 'no bicycles' and points to both the on-ramp and Homer Drive.

  24. April 27 2015

Maybe a raised intersection? There is a lot of crossing pedestrian/bike traffic at this intersection. Also, signs should also be located BEFORE the crosswalk to alert cars.
