This trail has roots growing out of it, making it unsafe for anything but a fat bike. Many people ride through the grass to avoid the roots. It leads from a dense neighborhood to Russian Jack Elementary and East High. Of all the trails I've ridden on in the city, the section from East High into Russian Jack Park is the worst.

The bike lane striping is gone on the northbound lane of Elmore where it merges into MLK. Again, re-striping as well as strategically placed painted 'bike lane' logos in bike lanes helps drivers know that a bike lane exists. Additionally, bicycles can continue straight on Elmore and drivers are to yield when merging onto MLK east bound.

  3. April 22 2015

The merge lane heading south off Elmore onto west Dowling needs re-striping. Most vehicles do not realize there is a bike lane in which bikes can go straight on Elmore and vehicles need to yield to bikes when merging onto Dowling. There used to be solid lines and dotted lines but as drivers don't pay attention to the lines, they are gone. I noticed in early winter that a sign was placed stating autos are to yield but it only lasted a week or two as the force of the snow being plowed caused it to fall off. It sat on the ground until they removed the snow. Additional 'bike lane' logos painted in key areas would help drivers realize there are bike lanes (closer together and at intersections).

There needs to be left turn arrow lights for North/South bound traffic coming out of Baxter and Campbell Airstrip turning onto Tudor. The traffic coming off of Campbell Airstrip during morning rush hour turns left without yielding to the traffic coming off of Baxter. The amount of traffic turning at this location warrants a turn light.

  5. April 22 2015

Placement of a 'manual' pedestrian crossing light (as they have on Northern Lights between UAA Drive and Bragaw) would help pedestrian crossing at this location.

  6. April 22 2015

Northeast bound traffic on MLK waiting to turn right/east on Tudor blocks the bike lane yet still occupies half of the right driving lane. The last Bike Lane sign is more than half a mile from Tudor. More signage and better placed painted 'bike lane' logos in the bike lanes would help keep the bike lane clear of motorized vehicles, hopefully.

Baxter Road officially has striped bike lanes but they need repainting every year. Last year, the bike lane on the west side was increased in size and vehicles drive on or inside the bike lane. There are very small signs posted on only one side of the street that states 'no parking/bike lane'. They are barely visible. Painting the 'bike lane' logo in the lanes helps tremendously but I would space them closer together, especially at intersections so that vehicles don't hug the curb as they turn, cutting through the bike lane.

Beaver has official bike lanes but they need striping every year. Even with re-striping, it would help if the 'bike lane' logo was also painted, and spaced closer together so that cars know this is a bike lane. The high density housing using the road north of Cheney Lake occupies the lane, or creates a 'door zone'. Additionally, it is common to see vehicles parked half in the road/lane, half on the sidewalk that runs on the east side of Beaver.

Turpin has official bike lanes but they need striping every year. Even with re-striping, it would help if the 'bike lane' logo was also repainted, and spaced closer together so that cars know this is a bike lane. Especially closer to DeBarr where the lanes just 'disappear'.

Create access from trail to end of Raspberry Rd.

  11. April 22 2015

The crosswalk where southbound exit ramp meets west bound O'Malley is at an angle. The cars in the left and center lane pull up to, or past, the crosswalk, blocking the view of cars in the right lane. There should be a solid white line with a 'stop here on red' sign much further back from the crosswalk so that there is a clear line of sight of the crosswalk.

    C Street Bike Lane

The bike lane would be nice in the summer, but could be inviting trouble on roads over 30mph when the surface is slick. Drivers of vehicles aren't always able to maintain their lane at higher speeds in the winter. It's nice to have a ditch between the ditch diver and the cyclist.

  13. April 22 2015

    C Street Bike Lane

C street already has separated bike paths on both sides, but the eastbound side has some problems with flooding. I'd like to see better options for crossing at intersections and fixes to the flooding before a separate bike lane.

Having a safe trail to ride along Northern Lights is great. However, this section could really use some maintenance. The pavement has been heavily damaged by ground movement.

  15. April 22 2015

    C Street Bike Lane

I think it would be a great idea - there's already a high amount of bike traffic along C St.

  16. April 22 2015

    Tudor Road Shoulder Striping

I think shoulder striping is a terrible idea - the traffic is overwhelming along this route - folks should just have easier access to the Campbell trail. Its so much safer.

  17. April 22 2015

An exit onto the street would be ideal at the bottom of the hill instead of at the entrance to the parking lot. Currently, a cyclist leaving the trail system going into the neighborhood needs to maneuver around bollards then make a sharp turn into the roadway.

  18. April 22 2015

Stop sign after Mulituse path crosses road. If multiuse path was marked perhaps drivers would stop before crossing the multiuse path rather than on it which is the current situation.

    Tudor Road Shoulder Striping

I agree with the other comments here, Tudor traffic is moving too fast and drivers too focused on vehicular traffic for shoulder striping to be a safe alternative. I ride the sidewalk on Tudor when I have to ride this area of town. In addition- the intersection of C and Tudor is one of the most dangerous intersections in town. I have been cut off countless times by motorists not looking for pedestrians or cyclists, even when I am right next to their vehicle, and I have the ROW.

  20. April 22 2015

Baxter Rd is a bike route in need of signage and re-striping. A surfaced trail runs along the west side of Baxter Rd from Tudor to Northern Lights. The west side striping ends at Baxter Elementary which tends to funnel bikers off the road and onto the path. The crossings at Northern Lights Blvd are scary.

  21. April 22 2015

    Tudor Road Shoulder Striping

Are you nuts. Unless the lane is protected from traffic it's going to be nothing but a road kill lane.

  22. April 22 2015

The route around the new science center is circuitous with many obstacles and potential for pedestrian bike conflict. A trail here would connect the Chester Creek Trail system with the Elmore route. The UAA connector trail adds a whole mile to the typical commute from Hillside to Downtown.

  23. April 22 2015

Yes I agree with the comments on traffic calming intersections. The intersection require the biker to move into traffic to cross the intersection putting us at risk

  24. April 22 2015

A bridge here would complete an excellent north/south alternative to C Street. Sitka-Maplewood-MacInnes-Campbell Creek Trail. Very low traffic, very safe. This is all parkland and I'm sure everyone would be for it.

  25. April 22 2015

I second the motion for a "beg button" crosswalk here. Be sure to look both ways, however, because we know what can happen. A short footpath to Bancroft Park would make a complete route for so many bike commuters. This would be preferable to the C Street route due to the lower volumes and slower traffic found on non-arterial roads.
