Comments for “Santa Cruz Bicycle / Pedestrian Corridors”

This intersection is really tricky, especially on a bike coming south down california california, to make a left on bay, heading into the circles. i admit, i don't know what can be done, but one or two extra stop signs might help.

Ramp needed at end of curb from cliff path onto 4th avenue. This is considered a bike route by the RTC, but the lack of ramp forces bikes onto the sidewalk. A ramp and painted red curb to keep it clear would be great.

More bike racks. I counted 43 bikes on a recent summer weekend, and there are only 4 existing bike racks. This comment extends to all beaches, and to all destinations.
-
please extend pathway from Gateway through the planter strip and install curb cut to allow cyclists to access River St bike lane
-
please add striping or green lanes to close gap in bike lane as it jogs to avoid right turn lane and alert turning motorists to cyclists
-
please widen and better mark for cyclists (e.g., add a bike lane) this separated left lane that becomes a turn lane onto Poplar because it is narrow, is separated with bumps that are hazardous to cyclists, has heavy traffic and causes motorists to make last minute switches between lanes, creating conflicting movements.
-
please install better signing/stencils in westbound travel lanes so it is clear to be in the right one to continue onto Water and in the left one to go to Water to Poplar to Soquel; reconfigure to add a short bike lane adjacent to the left westbound travel lane; add striping or green lanes to indicate the pathway that cyclists take to go through the intersection to get to Soquel because there are a lot of conflicting traffic movements here -- motorists cross these lanes while other motorists are entering one of these lanes from the free right turn from Morrissey Blvd
-
please stripe or green lane a continuous bike lane as it turns the corner from Poplar to westbound Soquel or reconfigure the intersection (to give cyclists more space to turn) because motorists cut the curving turn too close to and squeeze out cyclists
-
please reinstall westbound Soquel Ave bike lane between Pacific and Front St as this is a very heavily used bike route to downtown
-
please sign, stripe and/or green lane jog in eastbound travel and bike lanes to alert motorists and cyclists
-
please sign, stripe and/or green lane jog in eastbound travel and bike lanes to alert motorists and cyclists
-
please sign, stripe and/or green lane jog in eastbound travel and bike lanes to alert motorists and cyclists
-
please sign, stripe and/or green lane jog in eastbound travel and bike lanes to alert motorists and cyclists
-
please sign and/or stripe (maybe green lane) jog in eastbound travel/bike lanes at intersection; please better mark and eventually bury open drain on east side of intersection which is a hazard that bicycles can fall into
-
Drivers coming north on Bay and turning R on California have a very wide curb radius and angled turn at California. A bulbout at this intersection making the turn more of a right angle would make this corner much safer and decrease turning speeds.
-
please allow cyclists to turn eastbound from Ocean St or continue straight onto Dakota by installing a cut through in the island; this is an alternative route to using busy Ocean St.
-
please allow cycling on this bridge by removing the walk bike signs and stencils; the bridge is wide enough and has high enough railings to accommodate bikes; incorporate safety measures to prevent bike-bike or bike-ped conflicts, such as lane striping, signs for bikes to give right of way to pedestrians and/or ring their bells; replace vandalized mirrors with ones that are tamper-proof
-
please cut back vegetation that blocks cyclists traveling up the bike path from seeing those starting downhill; this may require securing an easement because the vegetation may be on private property.
-
please add "Except Bicycles" to "do not enter" sign at the start of this convenient alleyway to allow cyclists to bike through; bike parking is also located on the alley.
-
please smooth pavement over railroad tracks
-
please remove curbing in pathway of cyclists and smooth pavement over railroad tracks
-
please cut back choker (which now causes cyclists to swerve into travel lane) and continue southbound Highland bike lane between Escalona and Mission St.
-
please stripe pathway through the Maharaja parking lot in order to leave a clear pathway for cyclists.
-
please allow 24 hr use of the multi-use path (misleadingly called a Riverwalk) by revising the signs that say open from sunrise to sunset; this is a major route that is used by cyclists and shouldn't be restricted to daytime use; lights were installed on the new bridge implying night time use. Loitering on the path is already prohibited, and being on the adjacent grounds can be prohibited at night, but the pathway should always be open.

We need to stop arguing about making King Street a bike boulevard, which will never happen. Remove one-side-of-the-street parking, restripe, and let's get on with it!
