Comments for “Santa Cruz Bicycle / Pedestrian Corridors”
-
PLEASE repave King Street. In the past month both my son (skateboard) and husband (bike) have had spills on King due to potholes.
-
Signal timing is too long for pedestrians and cyclists waiting to cross, especially for students going to SC high or Mission Hill. Kids wait a long time, and sometimes dash across due to impatience.
-
please reconfigure/restripe the eastbound Highway 1 intersection with Shaffer Rd (tighten the curve) to slow down motorists turning onto Shaffer Rd so they will not be traveling so fast when they reach the intersection with Mission St and the bike path
-
please re-align bike path exit striping so it aligns with Mission St bike lane across the street, re-position bollards as necessary; also install signing, striping and/or traffic calming for southbound vehicles on Shaffer Rd so that motorists are made aware that they are approaching a major bicycle crossing
-
please add a separated bike lane through the eastbound Harvey West intersection with Sylvania so cyclists do not have to stop riding downhill; this is a T-intersection so there is no crossing traffic and there is no sidewalk on that side of Harvey West Blvd; there are marked crosswalks so cyclists would still be required to stop for pedestrians.
-
please shift center line northward slightly and add bike lane in front of Homeless Service Center so that bikes do not have to queue behind a common long line of stopped motor vehicles
-
please change the No Parking signs by Branciforte schools to No Stopping signs. The continuing leaving off/picking up students during school hours blocks the bike lane and creates conflict. Motorists can use dedicated pick up areas instead.
-
please acquire a public access easement through the back alley of the Sunset Inn, remove the gates, and allow for through bicycle access to avoid the need to turn onto busy Mission St for one block (agree with other comment)
-
please reconfigure this sidewalk bulb out so that the bike lanes extend to King St while maintaining traffic calming. Now when there is a line a motor vehicles waiting to turn onto/cross King, cyclists must line up with them, whereas previously cyclists could pass them on the right and not be so delayed
-
please reconfigure these traffic islands into other forms of traffic calming devices so that the bike lanes do not merge into the motor vehicle lane causing unnecessary conflicts
-
please add an uphill bike lane for eastbound Goss; this is a bike to school route, there is adequate room for a bike lane, parking is already prohibited; share the lane signs were added, but a bike lane would be better to prevent vehicles from traveling so close to the roadway edge
-
please cut back or remove/relocate the traffic island so that southbound bicyclists on Market St are more aligned with the bike lane on the south side of Isbel Dr. and aren't squeezed out by motorists at the intersection
-
improve the entrance to this pathway for bicyclists, because now there are tight narrow curves to navigate
-
please add a bike path from Lee to Market St; this will require a bridge over Branciforte Creek; the rest of the area is already graded flat to be used by Caltrans to maintain the highway shoulder; this short cut would save about 3/4 mile of travel over roadways; this could be used as a substitute for a requirement that the adjacent housing development have a pathway through their property
-
please add bike lanes on River St; although there is a parallel pathway, it is accessible in only a few locations and the access points are not that convenient (as noted by other comment as well); since there are a big parking garage and parking lot in this area, they can absorb parking lost by eliminating on street parking in favor of bike lanes
-
please cut back the traffic island so that there is more room for cyclists in the southbound travel lane along River St at the intersection with So. River
-
please add a bike lane here; this is part of the route between the upper east side and the San Lorenzo River bridge; there is room for a bike lane; hardly any vehicles are ever parked in front of the National 9 motel
-
please add bike lane stripe on the eastbound entry to Plymouth St because vehicles driving here from across Ocean St squeeze out cyclists; this might require shifting the westbound lanes over, but there is room
-
please add bike lane stencil here, because drivers do not know this is a bike lane, also install a sign directing vehicle parking off of pavement, because motor vehicles are often parked on the pavement in the bike lane
-
please remove the parking space closest to the Staff of Life driveway on the southwest side because the bike lane is substandard width there, plus sight distance of drivers leaving the parking lot is obscured when a car is parked there so driver must move into the bike lane (which curves toward the driveway there) to see
-
please add "except for bicyclists" to do not enter sign so cyclists can access May St northbound from Water St through the traffic island. This is desirable because for cyclists traveling northbound it is often difficult to cross the two (soon to be three) eastbound Water St travel lanes to get in the left turn lanes to Ocean or Market Streets.
-
please extend curb cut so it is opposite Hubbard St and in line with the bridge over the creek in order to enable bicyclists to more easily access the bridge; agree with other comment on this subject
-
please allow bicyclists to travel northbound on Reed Way by installing an "except for bicyclists" sign under the Do Not Enter Sign. Although Reed is two-way, this sign was installed to prohibit cut-through motor vehicle traffic to and from Branciforte, but for cyclists this is a quieter route than Market St which lacks bike lanes in the parallel segment
-
please remove or re-position westbound Soquel bike lane stripe where it ends at a traffic island at Front St; cyclists need to be directed to take the travel lane there (and motorists need to be alerted of this) through signing, striping, green lanes, and/or sharrows
-
please better mark pathway for westbound Soquel cyclists at the Branciforte intersection where the bike lane ends at cyclists must then take the lane; a share the lane sign has been installed past the intersection which is good, but cyclists and motorists need an earlier warning, such as signing and/or lane striping/green lanes so that through motorists don't squeeze out cyclists
