We should remove the interchange ramps and bridge, create a normal intersection of College and University, and extend Calder Way and add cross streets here to extend downtown, creating significant space for new housing. More info here: http://jamesgraef.com/projects/university-college

We need a connection between Calder Way at High St and the proposed bike path along College Ave. This stretch of College Ave only had 16k cars/day pre-pandemic, so it could be narrowed to 3 lanes instead of 4-5 (can accomodate 20k cars/day), creating room for safe, protected bike lanes.

The fence obstructing pedestrians all the way along College Ave is pedestrian-hostile. Allow people to cross where they'd like, on either side of any intersection (as is the norm throughout the borough). We should slow cars down, rather than obstructing pedestrians. 6 times as many people cross here as turn left from Hiester, so they should be prioritized. Fences obstructing pedestrians encourage people who parallel park on the campus side of College Ave to jaywalk. They probably create more mid-block crossings than they prevent.

We have to tell PennDOT that we want safe, protected bike facilities along Atherton between Allen St and University Dr before they redo this stretch of Atherton. This would mean a road diet from 4-5 lines to 3, which is supported by low traffic volumes (something like 13k cars pre-pandemic, whereas 3 lanes can host 20k)

Biking along Park Ave is dangerous: either on the road where cars are speeding and drivers are inattentive, or on the sidewalk which is too narrow for both peds & bikes. Potential for separate bike path?

Pedestrian light here is quite slow; delay in responding to pedestrian request means that people routinely cut across Atherton here.

This light is problematic on many levels, for all transportation modes, even cars. If you are on Curtin trying to turn on to Atherton, you can wait more than 3-4 minutes, and even then the green light will only allow maybe two cars through.

This intersection is incredibly dangerous. Cars routinely run the red lights at high rates of speed, turn onto either Park or Atherton at high rates of speed, or fail to stop at all. Drivers are routinely on their cell phones. Rate of speed is marked 25 MPH; however, almost no one is driving 25 MPH along this route.

Off-Road Bike/Ped Priority
Please add speed bumps on westerly. The traffic speeds are crazy fast. Cars and even the school busses regularly fly through this curve at 40 mph, clipping the median curbs and breaking them.

Cars rarely stop at the crosswalk here despite the signs in the road "PA State Law Cars must stop for pedestrians in crosswalk." I have almost been hit pushing a stroller multiple times.

Class 4 and above trucks should not be permitted to travel beyond the intersection of Beaver & Atherton (or College and University) outside of established hours early in the day. Many communities have delivery and size class restrictions, and the business service companies adapt.
