The blind corner on the east side of Pugh street, at the intersection of Calder way makes for a very dangerous blind corner. Although the proposed improvements will make a safer path for pedestrians and cyclists, it will also surely increase bicycle-pedestrian collisions here because bicyclists do not honor the stop signs downtown.

The ownership of this space should be retained by the Borough, and used for a new parking garage/community space. It is out of the throat of the commercial district, and is right for the purpose for the exact same reason that the Borough building was placed across the street.
The proposed hotel is unnecessary, and the development proposal is based on 10+yr old Master Plan information that is not currently relevant to steer projects. Allen Street is a valuable space for community events, which will be lost to years of construction and eventually a mis-match in priorities if there is a hotel.

The issue(s) with this intersection are that
- there is a crosswalk on the East side of the intersection, rather than only on the West side, before traffic from Burrows can turn onto Beaver. As a bus route, and last-chance for turning onto Beaver (without going to Atherton - Less preferable) the left-turning traffic has to contend with pedestrians in the crosswalk.
- Both sides of Beaver Ave to the West of the intersection have horrible sidewalks and choke-points. The North side of the 200 block, in front of the Rider Building has ledges and drop-off's at the easement, presenting tripping hazards for pedestrians. The South side has a a narrow sidewalk with choke-points from a badly-placed signal footing, a mailbox, a decayed retaining wall, and dozens of high/low sidewalk trip hazards.
- The one-way portion of Burrows is frequently ignored as an illegal way to avoid the Atherton/Beaver intersection. A Bulb-out, and increased signage (and maybe added parking) would fix it.Liked 6 times

Not only is removing the eastern crosswalk of Beaver Ave pedestrian hostile in the middle of downtown, it also will never work. People will cross regardless of a lack of paint and a few signs.
Like Liked 0 timesRemoving the East crosswalk would probably improve traffic flow during a short light, and would discourage pedestrian interactions. Signage too encourage west-side crossing could help.

Open up the street that's blocked to give a second point of access into the South Allen Street area.

Likewise at the retreat gate, locked at Whitehall. Joke. Seems this was a fake community interconnection well intended for town gown with a luxury private student ghetto. Why? If it got built so that this place got approved to be built-then keep the door open.

A CATA bus to the airport is massively overdue. You can do like other places do and charge ~$8 for it instead of normal fare and it would still be worth it. There aren't a ton of outbound flights, so you can make it so it only runs 6-10 times a day and it will still be pretty good.

Getting home from inbound flights is also a problem. Given that taxis de facto no longer exist here it would be nice to have another option to get to downtown. I had a visitor from a non-uber-using country come who had a very hard time getting back from the airport.

It would be great to have a protected bike/pedestrian lane here between Science Park x W College and Blue Course x West College. Even better would be to bring it all the way out to Bristol x West College. This would connect up several neighborhoods with protected lanes that feed into campus and keep vehicle and bike traffice safe and separate.

Delivery trucks and cop cars frequently park here, which forces all road traffic, vehicles, bikes, etc. to go into oncoming traffic. If the delivery truck is large, it can block your vision of the oncoming traffic. It would be better if the trucks went to one of the docks or a side door.

The lane here is just a gutter lane. First problem is that it's just paint and not protected. Second problem is that smaller bike tires or electric scooter tires can get caught in the sewer drains. The third problem is that cars park here all the time. It's one thing when it's move-in/move out week, but any other time those cars should be towed.

It's another confusing spot with bike paint in only the uphill direction too. Bikes are usually moving the same speed as cars on the downhill so it's not the biggest deal, but the lack of a bike lane on the other side definitely creates chaos (some bikers will also weave through cars stopped at the Pollock-Burrowes intersection and blow the stop sign with pedestrians crossing)

This is out of the scope of the map, but it's worth commenting:
There is a pedestrian crosswalk here, but lots of drivers tend to see McKean as a free pass to speeding. I almost got ran over the other day by a clearly speeding car that did *not* stop as I was crossing. Improved signage needs to be put here.Liked 0 times

Crossing here can be extremely dangerous!
The cars do not take notice to the (way too small) "yield to pedestrians within crosswalk" sign, or ignore it all together. some cars go very fast as well down the hill.
There needs to be improved signage of a pedestrian crossing, for example a bigger and brighter sign, and painting a pedestrian sidewalk on the speed bump.Liked 0 times

Very hazardous crossing the street from Mcdonalds side to Campus side. There is very little visibility due to parked cars. I always have to walk a little into the sidewalk to see cars ahead, which is dangerous in and of itself.

The parked cars, combined with a slight elevation difference makes this one of the worst roads to try to turn left onto College Ave in the downtown.

Pedestrian crossing of this road is incredibly dangerous. Foot traffic is relatively heavy here, because there is a bus stop and a USPS mailbox, not to mention all the housing and children's daycare. However, there’s no way to cross Blue Course unless you go all the way up to White Hall (which is incredibly fast, busy, and terrifying to cross) or all the way down to Orchard Park (which someone else already commented is equally dangerous).

The parking on the campus side of the road is inaccessible from the side walk due to the fence and slope. People need to run across traffic to get to their cars especially during the winter.
It would be better utilized by transforming that parking lane into a bus lane. Alternatively, one could instead shift the driving lanes over and add protected bike lanes on the other side of the road.

The sign at this intersection telling motorists turning right to yield to pedestrians is the single most ignored sign in all of State College. Right turn on red should be eliminated at this intersection, including the slip lane. At the very least, there should be a stop sign right before the crosswalk.

The flow of traffic should not be impeded onto Atherton. The traffic on College Ave would be horrendous. It's a better option to change the shape and markings for the right turn only lane to aid in driver attention and pedestrian safety.
Like Liked 0 timesThere is absolutely no excuse for a slip lane in Downtown State College. Traffic might move faster if there was a slip lane from Beaver Ave onto Allen, but no one would suggest that because it would ruin Allen St. This intersection could be a lot less hostile to pedestrians if the slip lane was removed. The excuse I often hear is that there are buses turning right. There are plenty of places in the borough that buses turn right without a slip lane.

Allowing bikes and pedestrians to cross here would divert traffic from College and Beaver. Calder is great to use for bikes to stay away from cars and pedestrians, but it's ruined by not being able to cross at this point.

A bike/ped crossing here meets PennDOT warrants, is far enough from existing crossings, and is crucial to any bike network plan in downtown. Learn more here: http://jamesgraef.com/athertoncrossing

The corner building appears to be tilting significantly and in poor shape. It also has zero setback for cars or pedestrians to navigate this intersection.
