Comments for “2014 Billings Urban Area Long Range Transportation Plan”

The highway department ignored the people along and near Mary street in proposing the so called "by-pass". The so-called "by-pass" goes through a long established neighborhood when it could have gone through vacant field. By the time it is finished, Billings will be in need of another by-pass. Mary Street is simply too close to the city.

Need a 15 second minimum green light. At night, I have seen green lights that go back to red in as little as 5 seconds.
-
Old 312 needs 8 foot paved shoulders. Did you know that this road going to Huntley has more traffic than I - 94
-
The J-turn prohibits bicyclists and wheelchair users from crossing Shiloh to access subdivision from the path.
-
The eastbound curbed single lane at Cracker Barrel is too narrow. No room for motorist to safely pass bicyclist.
-
The roundabout decorations hides traffic going through. Did you know motorists go through these as fast as 30 mph when traffic is light.
-
Both Wicks Lane and Bench Bvld. need bike lanes. The path to the east of Bench Bvld. does not provide access to businesses.
-
Traffic signals detectors need to be bicycle sensitive citywide with a 15 second minimum green light. While I love to bike Miles Ave since it lacks traffic, it also causes me to wait several minutes for a motorist to show up trip the light even during the day. Short green lights is a citywide problem. 5 seconds is NOT enough time to safely cross a road. That is how short many green lights are not just in Billings but all over Montana.

Modify the J-turn, so that bicyclists and pedestrians on the trail can cross here and more directly access the business on the east side of Shiloh Road. It is a half mile round trip to detour to the King Ave roundabout and back.
-
The physical layout of the intersection and the northern terminus of Calhoun Ln is in need of a realignment to better accommodate the traffic volumes.

It would be nice to see a trail/ path created for Pedestrian and Bicycle traffic from the intersection of Old Hardin Road and US 87 to the school. This is a very busy road and there is no alternative transportation solution other than sharing the road with motor vehicles, unless you want to walk in the weeds which becomes an issue or not possible at all during inclimate weather.
-
A Bike/ Ped path is desperately needed along Old Hardin Road. There is no alternative for bicycle or foot traffic other than sharing the road with motor vehicles. This is a very dangerous, heavy traffic road.
-
A Bike/ Ped path is desperately needed along Beacraft Lane. There is no alternative for bicycle or foot traffic other than sharing the road with motor vehicles. This is a very dangerous, heavy traffic road.
-
I believe that there is a 60' easement from where Ford Road intersects with Johnson Land and runs all the way to Hillner Lane. A Bike/ Ped path could be created and would create a great alternative transportation path that could keep kids and adults alike off of Johnson Lane and US 87. This would be a terrific direct connection to the school.

We sorely need a pedestrian/bicycle crossing on 6th Avenue N near North Park. It's like playing "Frogger" trying to cross with all the speeding traffic. The only traffic lights are at 18th and then many blocks west to N. 27th.
-
There is no reason to prohibit parking on the south side of Parkhill Drive from 3rd St. W. to Virginia Lane. This is silly! How did those "rich folks" on the north side of the street ever talk the City into that!?
-
Please do install the bicycle-pedestrian bridge over the railroad tracks at 25th Street and connect south-side with north-side.
-
S. 32nd Street W needs attention south of King, where it narrows and makes the blind "jump" downhill toward Gabel Rd.
-
Grand Avenue from 17th W to 24th W is in desperate need of turn lanes. All of Grand Avenue from Division Street west needs bike/pedestrian lanes; the sidewalks are plowed over with snow during the winter.
-
Bike/walking trail to connect Billings Water Treatment to Riverfront Park. Would go along way in making almost all the bike paths in Billings connected in one big loop!
-
Need a bike & pedestrian path from Zimmerman to Shiloh along Grand Avenue. That is a heavily traveled intersection and need a safe route for people to walk and bike in that area.
-
Need to put the pedestrian bridge in to allow access from 43rd street to the bike trail. People currently come to the dead end street, and have no way to access the bike path. They then walk along the back of bordering properties until the can access the next crossover which is three cul-de-sacs away. This bridge was originally to be installed as part of a park improvement, but the park has not been improved. Please release this improvement from the park and install it. I believe residents in the Shiloh Point and Goodman Subdivisions would/should split the costs of the bridge. If the households in those two subdivisions split the cost, it wouldn't be that much per household. I live in the Shiloh Point subdivision and would personally be happy to contribute to the cost of bridge installation. This is both pedestrian and bikeway.
