    I applauded the concept that we would have a bike route along this corridor as I use the corridor a great deal, until I realized that the term "buffered" meant, NOT PROTECTED. If Anchorage drivers see speed limits and stop lights as merely "advisory" what do you think they do about "bike lanes"?

    If you are not planning to protect the lanes, cease and desist and quit wasting money on "planning". We don;t need bike lanes - we need protection.

    Most everything painted on roads is not visible during most of the year. Anchorage motorists will continue to use Pine and McCarrey for parking, and placing any parking outside a bike lane is going to result in increased injuries to bicyclists

    McCarrey St Bike Lane

    A buffered approach in Anchorage has never worked to secure the safety of anyone and will not work here. This route requires protected bike lanes and if you are not going to do that, just leave the route alone.

    Would love to see a single shoulder bike lane on huffman from the Elmore intersection up to the Birch corner, tying into the existing bike path that runs on the east side of Birch.

    This is a high traffic area - I'd widen the path and designate lanes for bikes only, with pedestrians in their own area to cut down on near collisions.

    There needs to be a tunnel or overpass at this intersection. Cars do not pay attention to pedestrians or cyclists when making right hand turns on red.

    The sharp turn at the end of the tunnel creates a blind corner - and for some reason, pedestrians like to stop here and create a hazard. Better signage and/or widen the tunnel?

    There is no safe way for cyclists to get onto the trail system here. From the east, cyclists are forced to ride the sidewalks which are narrow, used by pedestrians (as they should be), and are not maintained (especially in winter when the plows push ice and snow onto them!) The intersections at Baxter, Boniface, Wesleyan, and the streets and business driveways along the way are dangerous. This road needs a safe bicycle lane and signage!

    Fix these extremely dangerous wooden bridges across the creek!!! One has a sign that says slippery surface but my medical bills are from the one further west. And there are dangerous wooden bridge surfaces all along the Chester and Campbell Creek Trails.

    Cyclists are forced to ride the sidewalk along Tudor Road. Every side street, intersection, and driveway are extremely risky even when cycling with lights and in the same direction as traffic. Most drivers don't stop back of the sidewalk and don't yield to cyclists crossing. The only way to get onto the Campbell Creek Trail from Tudor puts cyclists crossing Tudor Road at the crosswalk and riding along MLK on the sidewalk going the opposite direction of vehicle traffic. This is very unsafe. Most drivers turning east onto Tudor off MLK or north onto Boniface off Tudor don't yield to cyclists in the crosswalk. Also, most drivers exiting the Dept of Public Safety property onto MLK are not looking to the right. I've even had a police officer pull out in front of me at this location!

    Baxter and Beaver have striped bike lanes yet they end at the traffic lights and start again on the opposite side. These lanes need to continue THROUGH intersections. At a minimum, there needs to be signs to advise drivers that cyclists can take the lane. Too many drivers speed up, pass cyclists approaching the light, then move right forcing cyclists to the curb. Also, people drive in the bike lanes all the time to avoid the recessed manholes in their travel lanes. And in the middle of the northbound bike lanes there are dangerous, recessed, water access points that often have inverted or missing covers.

    11/10/2015 After the plow went by and the slush froze, this section of the sidewalk north of 15th was virtually impassable, even for a fat tired bike with the lowest gearing available. Even a 5 foot separation between the road and the pedestrian walkway/bicycle path would solve this problem. I will not be able to take this route again until spring. Lower income people utilize this path frequently as it is the shortest route to downtown. Are there any plans in the works to improve this route?

    The trees and shrubs planted adjacent to the bike trail at the intersections with Juneau, Karluk, Latouche and Nelchina have grown up to a height where they are a serious visibility hazard. This precludes this trail from being used as an efficient commuting route. This combined with the numerous abrupt changes in line of travel make it one of the least desired routes leading into downtown. Unfortunately, this was the primary detour route during the summer closure of the Chester Creek trail. The trees could be shaped to improve visibility. We realize that these help to shield the nearby residents from traffic noise, but it also creates a dangerous situation for cyclists.

    There is a very large immovable object right in the middle of the bike trail. While aesthetically pleasing, it requires bike commuters to take evasive action every time they come through there. It needs to be moved out of the line of travel. Future designs should take this into account. Trails should be designed to maximize efficient and safe bicycle transportation.

    Nelchina is a good transition point from the bike trail on 15th to the network of bike-friendly Fairview streets leading to downtown. It would be helpful if the purple fences were redesigned with bikes in mind. The current layout requires a SE bound rider to take a driveway cutout up onto one of the sidewalks on either Nelchina or Orca, then make a very abrupt turn at the bike trail. The designated bike route is on Karluk, but these streets are much safer as they have significantly less traffic.

    One of the many purposes of a Bicycle Blvd is---To discourage non-local motor vehicle traffic at major intersections by promoting lower speed neighborhood traffic. This design requirement is accomplished through the building of cul-de-sacs at major intersection to promote slower speed local traffic that facilitates bicycles and pedestrians traveling along the 10th Avenue corridor while increasing safety.

    We bike 10th Avenue year around and have noticed an increase in non-local higher speed traffic traveling east-west using 10th Avenue rather than 9th Avenue which is traffic light controlled. This non-local higher speed traffic which is more appropriately named “neighborhood cut-through traffic” needs to be diverted to the 9th Avenue collector. This could be done by simply constructing traffic diverters/calmers on 10th Avenue, flanking each side of A Street (@the intersection of 10th & A-Street) to promote slower speed local traffic. If this was to be done at the intersection of 10th & C-Street a one-way traffic diverter could be put constructed on W 10th at both A & C Street intersections, which would allow local traffic and winter maintenance for those who live on that block.

    7/8/15 While starting up the hill, another biker pulling a trailer appeared coming down the hill. Seeing that the mother was visibly concerned about the trailer falling off the curb an tipping her child into the lane with vehicles traveling 40+MPH, I yielded by pulling off into the grass and stopping. The path here is too narrow and is very close to the road. With Chester Creek Trail closed for most of the summer and Northern Lights sidewalks closed as well, this has become the only viable east/west route between 5th Ave. and Tudor. There are significantly fewer cyclists using this route than you see at any time of the year on Chester Creek. My guess is they simply do not want to ride this route.
