Comments for “Monroe Avenue Conceptual Improvement Plan”

Enforcing a reduced speed through this section of Monroe, along with additional / lighted crosswalks (like with button-activated blinking lights), might prioritize vehicle traffic to Harrison / Van Buren. (However, those are also pedestrian crossing streets, and need better crosswalks themselves!)

Parking is essential to allow for non-OSU community members to be able to patronize these businesses as side street parking is not adequate.

Please paint bike lanes in the same green color that other places do. This would help to designate these lanes for both bikers and drivers.

Please consider making this entire section of Monroe a smoke/vape free area. Let's protect our youth that choose to not partake in smoking from the second hand smoke/vape.

Smoking - There are signs that say no smoking yet right here, on this side of the road people sit/stand in front of these signs and light up requiring all pedestrians coming from OSU campus or walking on the OSU side of the street to choke on 2nd hand smoke. Please enforce this or even make this section of Monroe a smoke (and vape) free area. The health of many should not be put in danger because of someone else's choice to smoke.

Parking in front of "grab-and-go" places is sparse through here and side streets have very little parking as well. Some even require a resident permit which those that frequent campus/Monroe likely don't have. Keep the parking please but perhaps limit the times and frequent the pay to park machines to enforce such limits.

There has to be something done about "rules of the road" for BOTH bikes and cars. All too often I see cars not stopping and bikes barreling through stops signs while riding on the road in a vehicle lane expecting everyone to stop for them. Education in this area is desperately needed.

The lights at this intersection are quite long. While during the day this can be extremely helpful to allow several pedestrians to make it across, in the middle of the night and very early morning, you can sit at that light waiting to turn/go forever. Perhaps some time of the day timing allowing for shorter lights between the hours of 9pm-7:30 am would be a possibility. (also...a dedicated left turn light would be extremely helpful here as well!)

Add sensors to the lights at this intersection as it doesn't seem to adjust to traffic flow.

What if Kings Blvd dead-ended here into a Car-Free zone?!? Imagine lots of room for outdoor dining and people spaces. Keep a two way bike trail down the road. Also keep ADA parking and bus access?

Parking is essential on this street. The surrounding residential neighborhoods have insufficient parking on narrow streets and most parking lots are restricted to specific businesses. Student pedestrians seem to do whatever they want so multiple crossing points with opportunities for protected intermittent traffic flow would be helpful. Please make changes ADA accessible. The sidewalks are ridiculous, especially when exiting a vehicle and walking down the street to find a ramp.

We wouldn't need traffic signals if this whole section of Monroe was car free. Save money and reduce car/bike/ped conflicts by getting rid of the cars.

If this whole section of Monroe, Interzone and other businesses could expand their outdoor seating.

This would be the starting point for a CAR FREE zone on Monroe. Imagine having this whole section with zero cars! Gone are the safety issues for peds and bikes. Create a two-way bike only lane down the middle with the rest for peds and restaurant outdoor seating. There are plenty of ways to travel around this area in a car. There are so few parking spots on the street anyway the parking won't be missed.

Turn the north end of 26th st into a dead end here, when it meets monroe. That would eliminate some blind spots and other worries.

Let's make this whole street (from 26th to 14th) car free. Many cities around the world have made certain roads bike and pedestrian only and have had positive results. Let's think outside of the car, Corvallis!

Ticket deliver trucks parked in the bike lane on the south side of the street, 2 or 3 times per day. If Dream and Bombs choose outdoor seating in their loading zone, they can find other places for deliveries to park.

All crosswalks in the section between 14th and 26th need to be brought up to standard with ADA. All crosswalks need to be well marked on the pavement. Some should have signage and others could even have flashing lights. The one at kings and monroe needs a traffic light.

Remove all street parking in the section between 14th and 26th. It only causes chaos for moving vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians. Removing the parking lane also will allow for middle turn lanes to be put in.

Add a Traffic Light here, the intersection is busy enough to justify it.

Interzone is my favorite place to hang out on Monroe

I like the idea mentioned by another commenter to make Monroe a one way street for cars and turn the other lane into a two way bike lane (or maybe a bus only lane if buses need to be able to travel both ways?). I would add that in terms of visibility, having the cars driving west is tricky because for an hour or more every afternoon during the school year, the sunset in the west is nearly blinding to drivers going west on Monroe

There needs to be some kind of controlled crosswalk at this intersection or a barrier between the sidewalk and bike lane. I bike east on Monroe on my way home and have hit or had near misses with pedestrians who were walking on the south sidewalk near this intersection because they stepped right in front of me in the bike lane without looking first

Echoing other comments - something needs to be done to improve safety here. It is HIGHLY trafficked with cars, bikes, and pedestrians. Impatient drivers, young people trying to show off their speedy cars, students crossing in unsafe manner, etc, etc. But I think a light or crossing signal would back up traffic and pedestrians unacceptably.

Would like to see more speed limit signs and more enforcement of said speed limit around campus.
