Comments for “City of Oakland Pedestrian Master Plan Update”

There should be a stop sign here. Lots of seniors, dog walkers, and kids cross this block, and cars go quite fast. There are lights on either end of 17th, so there wouldn't be a significant traffic interruption. Safe streets for pedestrians!

The intersection of 34th, Linden, & San Pablo feels unsafe to cross as a pedestrian walking along San Pablo. It essentially means walking along the hypotenuse of a large triangle formed by 34th, Linden, and San Pablo.

Lowell Street between Adeline and Stanford needs continuous sidewalks. Don't rely on the property owners to do it voluntarily. This is a major route for pedestrians in our neighborhood, and it ends at the Santa Fe school, which will re-open next year.

This is a dangerous crossing. The lighting is dim. There may not even be a painted crosswalk. It feels a bit like a freeway on-ramp, so cars headed to the freeway whip around the corner without looking out for pedestrians.
This is an important pedestrian corridor from residential areas to the south up to the grocery store and the bus hub at 40th / San Pablo.

Sidewalk is missing on the east side of Peralta here. This is an important pedestrian corridor from these residential areas to the grocery store and the bus hub at 40th / San Pablo.

This underpass at Hollis is a key gateway into Oakland. Hollis is used by bikers and pedestrians to get to the shops and the TransBay bus lines on 40th. If this underpass were cleaned up -- illegal dumping reduction efforts, keeping pigeons away (the level of pigeon excrement is really pretty gross) -- it could be used by more people.

A crosswalk should be added here to serve the several bus lines (26, and on San Pablo, the 72) that stop at 30th. It's a wide & dangerous crossing.

This is a 72R bus stop, and many riders who get off here then head west along 30th. But the crossing at 30th is very awkward, so there is much jaywalking. Could a crosswalk be added directly from the bus stop to 30th?

This crossing needs better marking and user-activated flashing lights. OFTEN one car will stop in one lane and the other lane will motor through, endangering the pedestrian trying to cross. It's a treacherous and frightening intersection!

Need a right turn arrow (with no turn on red sign) from Keith Ave. onto Broadway added to signal at Broadway/Keith intersection. Traffic tends to ignore pedestrians trying to cross Broadway on walk signal. Also need sign for pedestrian to cross only on walk signal.

Better enforcement (red light camera) of left turn arrow for traffic signal at College/Keith for southbound College Ave. traffic. red light is routinely run at signal change, endangering pedestrians crossing Keith Ave.

At the very least, add painted crosswalks for pedestrians.

Improved street lighting needed in areas around MacArthur BART. 2-3 blocks away from BART is where many muggings occur.

Slow down traffic along MLK (particularly from 40th street up into Berkeley). Many drivers treat it as though it is the freeway, which makes it difficult for pedestrians as well as cyclists.

Not sure why my Grand/Mandana comment ended up at Lakeshore/Mandana....but that is where it is.

Very difficult to cross Broadway at Ocean View--and dangerous--but people DO cross here as the closest "safe" crossing over Broadway is a fair distance away.

At Grand and Lakeside there is a right turn lane and a flashing yellow/red light. Pedestrians and motorists ignore the lights and generally treat the area as a crosswalk but some motorists speed through. A clear and consistent system is needed to prevent serious injuries.

Traffic turning north/left on Lakeside from Jackson crosses pedestrians who have a green light. This conflict zone has led to at least one pedestrian death in the past several years. Perhaps a pedestrian crossing light could reduce the danger.

When I walk to work, I avoid this intersection because the trees here seem to attract an absurd quantity of birds (you can smell the poop from a block away, and there are often dead birds on the sidewalk)

I was mugged here a little before 9p right after daylight savings time in November 2014. With the post office, social security building and parking structure all closing early, there's nothing open to make this area safe

Any way to make this crosswalk safer? People tear around this bend. Not safe for kids.

I've seen so many accidents in the one year I've lived in the condo building on the corner. Maybe speedbumps would help? or a longer yellow period?

We walk along Harbord all the time, and this intersection is dangerous to cross. Thanks!

Badly need speed Bumps or ANY other alternative to counter daily speeding on 13th Ave and 33rd St, specially. This is urgent since in the immediate vicinity we have senior centers and elementary schools. a)East Bay Assisted Living b) BellaVista Elem. School.
