Dangerous road for bikes. Its a busy road with no shoulders. It's a great road to get to the other side of town and avoid the Johansen or College debaucle because it is so much more direct, but is so narrow and dangerous that it sucks to ride on.

Really Need a bike path West of Badger Elementary on Bradway. No shoulders-dangerous for kids.

  3. May 23 2011

To reiterate other comments, this road needs a separate bike/walking path. This is a popular road for many people walking, running, walking children, children playing, bikers, etc. A path would make everyone safer.

Hard to know how to vross the intersection on bikes. Would Prefer a roundabout

  5. May 23 2011

Need non-motorized pathway all along Bradway. Especially with a school there. It is dangerous.

Peger Rd does not have sidewalk on the east side. When using this road for biking, crossing the street is only possible at the major intersections. Riding and walking on the east side is dangerous and nerve-wracking with gravel, narrow shoulders, and fast traffic.

When I was walking onthe sidewalk a snowmachiner came up behind me, I told him motorized traffic was not allowed and he said "this is Alaska". He almost ran over a young boy, Plow it so they snowmachines wont go on it

This is a popular biking, running, and walking road. There really should be a separate bike/walk path on both sides of the road.

  10. May 23 2011

The existing Walkways and historic signage are great-What is lacking are restrooms. Downtown is horrible for parents with kids and seniors who cant find toilets.

  11. May 23 2011

Peger Road is another perfect place for painted bike lanes going both directions along the road, rather than having the cyclists always sharing the sidewalk with pedestrians and slow cyclists. I usually end up riding on the shoulder with the traffic, even though the "official" bike route says to use the sidewalk.

Alaska Land (especially the walk/bike from downtown).

  13. May 23 2011

It would be much safer to have painted bike lanes along University Ave - all the way from FL to Mitchell than to send cyclists up and down around various sidewalks. Bikes on sidewalks are dangerous for pedestrians! And cars don't pay attention to bikes on sidewalks, so crossing non-lighted intersections or driveways is very dangerous. The road is wide enough to add real painted bike lanes going each direction and signs to remind drivers to watch for cyclists.

This area around Fred Meyer East is not very walkable. A bike path is much needed.

I agree with the dangers of ATVs crossing the river on the narrow path on the bridge. barriers to prevent ATVs would be great. I did meet a very nice ATV driver here who explained that there is no other way for an ATV to get across the river, he said he does it slowly and carefully, but still does it because he doesn't have any other choice (except to drive on the highway). Can we solve this so bikes are safe but ATV drivers have an alternative?

  16. May 23 2011

As with other comments this whole stretch under the Highway has many dangerous points. I ride on the road (not on sidewalks - those are for pedestrians), and the car lanes get narrow enough with the curbs to make it dangerous for bikes and frustrating for drivers, especially when there is gravel along the curbs that pushed bikes farther into the lanes. Is it possible to widen the road (narrow the sidwalks?) and paint bike lanes going each direction, so drivers and cyclists know where they should be? Painted bike lanes and signs would also help drivers know where to expect cyclists.

Chena Ridge really needs a separated path at least up to Isberg. Mostly because I see many people using the shoulder for walking dogs, running, or walking with small children. One challenge is that a bike path would also have fast cyclists who are commuting into work (like me). One solution: make the separated path on the north side of the road for pedestrians and slow uphill cycling, then create a painted bike lane on the south side shoulder so that fast downhill cyclists don't interfere with pedestrians.

It would be really nice to have a paved path on Summit Dr.

  19. May 23 2011

Dangerous intersection. Cars turning right routinely roll into the crosswalk (all lanes) on red, and the drivers in the cars turning right only look to the left (west), which is great when biking from the west, but very dangerous when biking from the east (they never look that way). I saw at least one unfortunate biker that was hit by a car turning right here.

  20. May 23 2011

I bike on the shoulder here. Heading downhill, I'm on the wrong side of the road, but it's the best approach to the Chena Ridge - Chena Pump intersection. The Old Chena Pump Rd can be a scary crossing going in either direction (correct or incorrect side).
The nearby comment about gravel on the shoulder is a good one too.

  21. May 23 2011

Cars heading up Chena Ridge Rd already at 55 mph (posted slower here) use shoulder as a passing lane when a car is waiting to turn left onto Kentshire Dr. This is scary when in the car turning left, and is even more so when biking up hill and getting ready to turn left on to Kentshier Dr. A left turn lane would help.

    to valley center

  23. May 21 2011

bike path along side the road

  24. May 21 2011

In this vicinity are several severe cuts in the asphalt of the shoulder. One across the entire shoulder area, 2-3 hundred feet later are many deep ruts that could easily trap a tire, at this point you are traveling FAST. Then a little after that is a sink hole that as of 5.20.11 has a teeny hot pink circle around it. Enough for the surveyors, but woefully insufficient for bikes to avoid it. Could we have a class on how to paint hazards?

  25. May 21 2011

Where the bike path turns on to College Rd. from the Johansen is a very blind corner once the shrubbery is leafed out. Some warning signs, or painting the path for two lanes could help.
