Need a crosswalk from McGown St. across Cowles to the library. A pedestrian was injured today when trying to cross there. With the new Raven Landing Senior Community being built, it's essential that the residents have a safe way to cross Cowles to get to the library and to town. Thanks.

Over 90% of the residents on the Ester end of Gold Hill are against this. We already have a bike path. This plan will expose more home directly to the road than there are bikers. Even hard core winter bikers are against this. It ruin our community, and those who oppose this are banding together to fight this as a class action if need be. This is a financial boondoggle helped along by David Guttenberg. He has alienated a core constituency, and if Gold Hill ends up looking like Farmers Loop, he'll regret his hand in this.

I agree it would a good idea to have a paved bike path on chena Hot Springs Rd.. the current path is unusable, since it's a multipurpose path mostly torn up by 4 wheelers and no grading.

Why are Sheep Creek Road/Goldstream roads, Balaine Road and much of Farmer's Loop excluded from the study area?

Seems like it might be slanted to eliminate a lot of daily bicycle commuters and pedestrians from the study findings.

College road traffic too fast for this business area, insufficient pedestrian crossings. Needs traffic calming measures.

  6. May 17 2011

Really bad right hook potential in entrance to Fred Meyers.

  7. May 17 2011

Exposed culvert on bike trail, hole in culvert could trap bicycle tire.
    Dangerous.

  8. May 17 2011

Bike trail washed out with dangeraous water crossing all spring, summer, and fall.

  9. May 17 2011

This roundabout works really well for regular bicyclists using thye roads and for pedestrians for using sidewalks

  10. May 17 2011

Trail is washed out on south side of Yankovich West, culvert on north side is high and dry and is 30 percent exposed with really bad ruts caused by ATV and dirt bike use.

  11. May 17 2011

Bike trail is below water level during spring and after rains, water runs from one side to the other.

  12. May 17 2011

This road which is a designated bicycle and pedestrian path has been commandeered for construction traffic to the new life sciences facility.

  13. May 16 2011

This is a very popular bike route... all through out the summer there are races and in the winter there is still a fair amount of bike traffic. There is virtually no shoulder on this two lane road and the road is narrower in the winter. No matter the time of year a vehicle has to cross over into the other lane to get around a cyclist. There is many turns and it becomes dangerous for everyone when pass a cyclist on one of them. If the shoulder was widened at least on one side to permit cyclist to travel year round with out endangering their lives and the lives of people trying not to hit them in their vehicles.

  14. May 16 2011

This is a very dangerous place for bicycles because the curbs force us out into the very narrow road right where the cars are turning right to get onto the Parks Highway. Please remove the curbs or put in a separate bike lane that allows the us to continue straight without getting run off the road by the turning traffic.

I'm a bit flaburgasted that your FMATS plan includes North Pole and Ft Wainwright, but not the Chena Ridge area. Last time I checked there was a pretty significant population of Fairbanksans living there!

  16. May 16 2011

The traffic on Chena Ridge Road is pretty fast and dangerous. There are no good alternative routes. The shoulder isn't bad when the gravel is swept off and the snow plowed.

  17. May 16 2011

All of Chena Ridge needs to have the gravel swept off early in the spring. The shoudler isn't bad, but there is so much gravel that cyclists are forced into the road. It's very unsafe

  18. May 16 2011

This road really needs to be widened and a shoulder added.

  19. May 16 2011

A wider shoulder or a separate path along Yankovich would be a lot safer.

  20. May 16 2011

I see so many people (including families with little kids) crossing this road, and drivers really speed here. A traffic light and pedestrian crossing would be great!

  21. May 16 2011

The University Ave. sidewalks which are presumably the route of choice under current conditions for bikes are too narrow and could easily be widened by paving the area between the sidewalk and the road. Pave and paint lines on the side walks (both north and south) that separate bikes from walkers. This is very common in European cities and works very well.

  22. May 16 2011

Needs to be a shoulder or path along Skyridge and Skyline. With traffic I don't feel comfortable riding or walking along these roads

  23. May 16 2011

There is ALWAYS an issue with inappropriate use of the bike trails by ATV/motorcycles between Geist Road and Sheep Creek Extension.
How can this hazard to bicyclists/pedestrians be mitigated? It's usually young kids who are blatantly ignoring the laws or just don't really care. Nonetheless, such inappropriate use is going to result in serious accidents.

  24. May 16 2011

Gravel on the shoulders of Sheep Creek and Goldstream Road needs to be swept off as soon as possible in the spring. Train me to run the sweeper and I'll volunteer to do the job!

  25. May 16 2011

Access to the bike path from Boat Street needs to be blocked to motorcycle/atv use. Several kids get onto the bike path here to cross over the Chena River using the bridge. There's going to be a bad accident one day because of this.
Perhaps putting in some posts or barriers to block them would help a lot. Policing does not.
