Comments for “Ardmore Master Plan”

Downtown Ardmore has certainly improved in recent years, but some of the storefronts really need maintenance/improvement. I suggest creating a micro-grant program that would provide funds to businesses along the downtown corridor and immediately adjacent streets to specifically fund rehab and maintenance of their store fronts. LM could easily establish guidelines for use of funds, etc.

Church/Lancaster intersection is incredibly dangerous. Why not adjust the timing of traffic lights so that all traffic is stopped in all directions long enough for pedestrians to cross safely?

To make downtown Ardmore more walkable and more attractive to pedestrians, the sidewalks need to be widened, the heaving bricks need to be replaced with something that will not heave around the trees, and Lancaster Ave should be reduced to 3 lanes (one each way and a turning lane).

These abandoned shops along Anderson make a terrible statement about downtown Ardmore, and everyone sees them as soon as they get off the train to travel to/from Suburban Sq. LM should buy these derelict buildings, tear them down, and create a green space that connects Anderson Ave with the parking lot behind the buildings. It would make the parking lot more accessible and create valuable green space. The side of the brick building on the left, which would be exposed in the tear down, could be the site of a large mural.

If it rains, don't try walking on montgomery ave - you will get drenched as the water pools on the side of the road and as cars drive by you get an avalanche of water. A lot of people use this for walking from the apartments/houses to the train or suburban square. Better drainage or wider sidewalks could help.

Cars cut through from woodside road to montgomery all the time to avoid the red light. Very unsafe for other drivers and pedestrians.

Drivers coming from Sub Sq making a left onto Station Road often fail to see pedestrians crossing here. Dangerous.

Aesthetically, these mostly vacant shops are an eyesore. They don't invite people who have come off the train to enter the Ardmore Historic District for our restaurants, parks, and shopping.

Ardmore Ave is very fast and doesn't stop for pedestrians who are waiting in the crosswalk. There was a fatality here last year & crossing over to use the post office & library is still a hazard for walkers.

Residents created a lovely garden oasis on this township-owned corner. The existing bench needs to replaced.

Remove ugly, outdated, inaccurate sign that doesn't accurately describe which shops are in this strip.

Agree with raised crossing instead of that flashing light. At minimum brick path. Anything to calm the drivers here.

All street parking on Lancaster Av within the study area should be eliminated. Streetscape improvements could be made in the areas that would open up.

Realign Holland Av to intersect Lancaster Av at the existing intersection with Woodside Rd. A pocket park could be created in the resulting triangle of land between Lancaster Av and the East side of the realigned Holland Av. This would create new green space and eliminate the traffic hazard of westbound Lancaster Av traffic turning South into the existing Holland Av. Moreover, if the parcel between Holland Av and Ardmore Plaza is ever redeveloped, more options would open up for a larger park or some other use.

The township should work with Penndot to reduce the speed limit on the entirety of Argyle Rd to 25mph. With the recent development of Ardmore, Whole Foods, Target, etc., traffic volume has increased substantially. A 25mph speed limit is more appropriate for this environment, which is close to the center of town, and would also promote bike safety. I would also encourage more on-street parking on Argyle as a traffic calming measure.

This parking lot could be turned into an open space with trees and a park. As the center of Ardmore, it could serve as a town square given its proximity to the train station, police station, and municipal building. It would also for additional small store fronts at the back of the buildings that abut it along Lancaster Avenue. Ardmore needs green space and a place for people to congregate.

This intersection is horrible to cross. Drivers making left/right turns onto/off of Anderson barely look to see if there are pedestrians or begin turning while there are still people crossing. Along with many other areas of Ardmore along Lancaster, needs to have pedestrian-dedicated signals as opposed to having to try and look 3 directions at once to not get hit

This sidewalk is terrible. Cars are nearly on top of you as you walk. Would love to see improvements made to allow safer access to LMHS. Also, please revisit the idea of a pedestrian bridge to connect Lancaster with Suburban Square near Trader Joes/Farmers market!

I think that this place would be better with more lights, flowers, trees of many kinds and space for pop-up shops/markets and events. Would be nice to have more seating, such as benches and bistro tables for people to enjoy food/beverage from nearby restaurants.

Would love for this intersection to be safer for pedestrians to cross. It provides access to the eastern portion of Suburban Square and is frequently traveled by students walking to Lower Merion HS yet it's extremely unsafe.

Add pedestrian/bike underpass to connect Suburban Sq with Lancaster Av businesses.

This block of businesses could be redeveloped to create a more rational campus with entrances from Church and Chatham roads. Eliminate parking on Lancaster.

(1) Extend Station Rd to LMT campus and connect with Rittenhouse Pl. (2) Replace the N-S leg of Station Rd with greenspace and expanded sidewalks to accommodate outdoor dining. (3) Remove the traffic light at the (former) intersection of Station Rd with Lancaster Av. This will eliminate one of two close-together lights and reduce traffic congestion there.

This area of Sibley, east of the newer multi-family residential development should be within the study area- its a natural and important connection from Ardmore neighborhoods south of Lancaster and west of Wynnewood Rd to access Sub.Sq. - a more uniform pedestrian environment is needed, Several parcels are ripe for redevelopment or are underutilized.
